Larry Claffey Obituary

Larry W. Claffey, age 63, of Mount Gilead, passed away Monday, July 4, 2016, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born on February 14, 1953, in Marion, to the late Fairfax and Patricia (Altenburger) Claffey. Larry graduated from Harding High School in the class of 1972.

On January 10, 1973, Larry married the love of his life, Kathy M. Mason, in Caledonia, OH.

Some would say Larry's true love was for old cars. He loved wheeling and dealing, building, fixing, and driving all kinds of older style cars. Larry's personality though was bigger than he and was always willing to help others in need. Larry couldn't help but be ornery. If he liked you, you better believe he was going to crack jokes and pick on you at your expense. His sense of humor and ability to make others laugh will truly be missed by many.

Wednesday mornings will never be the same. Every Wednesday Larry and a group of friends often met in his garage. This special group of guys quickly became titled "the liars club".

Larry spent his working days as a machinist. Most of his time was working at HPM until they closed their doors. More recently, Larry enjoyed working in the maintenance and facilities department for the Morrow County Hospital.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Kathy; sons: Scott (Janice) Claffey of Delaware and Jason (Kelli Bean) Claffey of Columbus; granddaughter, Haley Claffey; sister, Lori (Paul) Swartz of Marion; step-mother, Norma Claffey; his dog he adopted from the shelter, Shiloh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Michael and Mark Claffey.

Family will greet friends on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 from 3 to 6 PM at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel. 67 N. Main St., Mt. Gilead. Services celebrating his life will follow at 6 PM with Pastor Steve Bloomfield officiating.

If desired, memorial contributions in Larry's memory can be made to the Morrow County Dog Shelter.

Kathy and Family, .....Billy Jr., Charity, and I are so sorry to hear of your loss of Larry. Know that our prayers and thoughts are with you. losing a loved one so suddenly and unexpectedly is a pain like no other, we know. If you EVER need to talk to someone besides family, I AM HERE for you, please know that sometimes I wish I had someone to talk to, that had been through the same thing and would understand how I was feeling at a certain moment because of what I went through, the sudden loss, the car accident, maybe just maybe, I CAN be there if you NEED that someone at 2 AM...because I HAVE been there..maybe not...but I open my arms and heart and phone to you when and if you or the boys may need to talk to someone that's been there and if not, that's fine... here's my number if you think you may want to....call me no matter the time... 419 566 0527. Our hearts hurt with you so much, hugs to you and the boys and their families...PS...I AM sure he and Bill are so rejoicing in their reunion in heaven seeing each other I can just picture it so much in my mind....Sincerely, Tammy (Howell) Rehberg & Billy Howell Jr & Family & Charity (Howell) Edwards & Family
