MT. RLANCHARD - Richard Eugene Apple, 78 of Mt. Blanchard passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Blanchard Valley Hospital.
He was born in Findlay, Ohio to Weldon M. and Florence E. (Simon) Apple on November 13, 1946. Richard graduated from Elmwood High School, class of 1964. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force from 1966-1970. On February 14, 1980, he married Jayme Harford, and she survives.
Richard is also survived by his daughters; Dawn R. (Steve) Hasselbach of Gibsonburg, Ohio, Brittany N. (Scott) Ferguson of Melborne, FL, Danielle M. (Trever Starr) Apple of Findlay, stepsons; Chad (Tracy) Tackett of Mt. Blanchard, Ryan Tackett of Bowling Green, Ohio, a sister, Diana Crum of Bloomdale, eleven grandchildren; Ashley, Jason, Zachary, Leah, Lainy, Jacob, Alyssa, Nick, Zach, Mikayla, Marc and four great-grandchildren. Richard retired from Ohio Bell/AT&T after 39 years of service. He loved sports and played on the Amvets Fast Pitch softball team and also coached his daughters in softball. Richard loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events, traveling and camping and would never turn down ice cream! He also found enjoyment in helping on the farm, mowing and cutting wood.
A funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Crates Funeral Home, Arlington where the family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Full military rites will be performed by the Hancock-County Veterans Memorial Squad. A private burial will take place later. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Richard to a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences can be expressed to the family by visiting coldrencrates.com.
