Teresa Shipman Obituary

MOUNT GILEAD - Teresa Ann Shipman, age 66, of Mount Gilead, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Sunday, September 29, 2025, at the Kobacker House in Columbus.

Born on March 10, 1959, in Mount Gilead, Ohio, Teresa was the eldest of three children of Daten Lyle Barnett and the late Evelyn May (Hammond) Barnett. She graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 1977.

Teresa dedicated more than 40 years of her life to serving others through her work at Morrow County Jobs and Family Services, where she held many roles, including Youth Coordinator and Supervisor, before retiring in 2018. More recently, she helped as a Teacher's Aide at Mount Gilead High School.

Teresa was a tireless volunteer. Her time and energy were shared with countless organizations, including the Morrow County Board of Elections, Morrow County Food Pantry, American Red Cross, Mount Gilead Athletic Boosters, Morrow County Jr. Fair Board, Mount Gilead FFA Alumni, and many others too numerous to list.

In her quiet moments, Teresa loved sitting on her back porch, taking in the peacefulness of the outdoors. She enjoyed mowing her lawn, tending to her flowers, and spending time with her beloved pets. In her younger years, she raised and rode horses, and later enthusiastically helped her children care for their 4-H animals. She never passed up the opportunity for a spontaneous road trip with friends and treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren.

Teresa will be remembered for her loving and caring nature. Selfless to the core, she always put the needs of others before her own. She enjoyed life to the fullest.

Left to cherish Teresa's memory are her children: Jerrod (Madison) Shipman, Tyler (Shelby) Shipman; three grandchildren: Mason Shipman, Aiden and Logan York; her father, Daten Barnett; her brothers: Dale (Marty) Barnett, Brian (Melissa) Barnett; nieces and nephews: Perry (Cheyenne) Barnett, Peyton (Tracy) Barnett, Brayden (Amber) Barnett, Jonah (Katie McCormick) Barnett; and many other nieces and nephews.

Teresa's family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Mount Gilead Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead, OH 43338. Visitation will continue from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Jerry Snavely. Burial will follow at Bryn Zion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Teresa's name may be made to any of the local organizations she so faithfully served.

Teresa was a dear friend in Junior high and high school. We ran around together tirelessly. Morrow county Fair was a big place that we all caught up and had the best of times. So many memories too many to mention. She was always in for hosting all of us at her house. And never held back from a good joke. Lost touch after high School but never forgot what a wonderful lady she was. Prayers for her family.
