It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Sharon Lee Cohen.
Sharon was a long-time mountain resident who fell asleep in death on Thursday, June 22, 2023, in a procedure room at Saint Bernadine Medical Center. This was an untimely and unexpected passing.
Sharon was born on June 15, 1940, in the Adirondack Mountains in the town of
Gloversville, New York. Her parents, David and Jean Stratton had two girls, Sharon being the youngest. Sharon spent all of her formative years growing up in Gloversville. After high school, she attended the State of New York University at Oswego. She received her Teaching Credential and Bachelor of Science in Education in 1961. Within a week of graduating from her university, Sharon got in her little British MG red convertible and drove across the country to Southern California to begin her life on the West Coast. She accepted her first teaching position in
Long Beach, California. Within a few months, she met her husband of 44 years, Morton Lanny Cohen and they later married that same year in Las Vegas. They settled their family in a new home in Anaheim and that is where they had their four children. Anaheim is where Sharon and Lanny raised their family.
Sharon was never a big fan of suburbia and when she found the San Bernardino Mountains, she felt so at home. The San Bernardino Mountains reminded her of her childhood in the small town she grew up in back in New York. She started bringing her family to these mountains frequently. She bought her first mountain property in the 1970s. She loved the mountain lifestyle so much, she permanently moved to the mountains in 1990. She opened a restaurant in Crestline. "Munchies Cafe" and that is where she thrived getting to know the mountain community.
Sharon ran several other businesses and properties throughout the mountain. At the time of her death, she was independent and still managing her rental properties. Many people know her in this small mountain community. You may have crossed her path at the local restaurants, post office, or hardware store. You couldn't miss her, she was a very fashionable woman, always wearing her very large unique prescription glasses and conversing with everyone. Sharon was a woman of strength, compassion, and character. Sharon was a very religious woman. She was associated with Jehovah's Witnesses for over 60 years. She will always be remembered for her sense of style, humor, and exuberance.
Sharon loved her family. She is survived by her only sister Patricia Andreana of
