Linda Mary Vecchi

Linda Mary Vecchi ST. JOHN'S, Newfoundland, Canada - Linda Mary Vecchi passed away on March 23, 2010. Linda was born in Canandaigua in 1956. During her early years, she developed her lifelong passions for family, friendship, reading, theater and music. Linda attended Canandaigua Academy, graduating in 1974, and received her bachelor's degree from Nazareth College. Linda's passion for the study of English literature broght her to St. Bonaventure University, where she completed her master's degree, then to the University of Western Ontario, where she completed her doctorate. From 1984 on, Linda made her home in St. John's, Newfoundland with her husband, Dr. Mark Cumming, and daughters, Allessandra Vecchi Cumming and Emily Vecchi Cumming. Dr. Vecchi taught with distinction in the English department of the Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her breast cancer, diagnosed in 1994, which had been in remission, reappeared in 2007. She faced her disease with characteristic grace and courage until the end of her beautiful life. Linda was predeceased by her loving father, Renato Vecchi. She is survived by her mother, Betty Vecchi; husband, Mark; daughters, Allie, age 21, and Emily, age 18; sisters, Pamela (Skip) Hoose, Diana McGrory and Renata (Eric) Lane; nephews, Matthew (Jill) Hoose and Alex McGrory; and her extended family in Canada and the United States. A memorial service and celebration of her life was held at the Memorial University of Newfoundland on March 27.
