Ruth Richie Obituary

Ruth Richie STANLEY/CANANDAIGUA - Ruth Richie, 93, died on Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, at Hospeace House in Naples. Friends may call on Saturday, September 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. Family and friends are invited to a celebratory memorial reception at Wegmans Canandaigua, immediately following the funeral, from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Ontario-Yates Hospice, 756 Pre-Emption Road, Geneva, NY 14456. Ruth was the daughter of the late Laurids and Elise Bjornlund Pedersen. Ruth is survived by her four children, Lorraine Herbert, Bonnie (Paul) Perot, Susie (David) Dubler and Chuck (Barbara) Richie; six grandchildren, Sarah, Stephen and Lauren Herbert, Jenny Kocur, Thom (Su) Perot and Katie Richie; four great-grandchildren, Nick and Emma Kocur and Kristen and Austin Perot; two brothers, Lawrence (Dona) Pedersen and Larry (Sharon) Pedersen; and several nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her grandson, Charley Dubler in 1995; and two brothers, William and Kenneth Pedersen. Ruth was born in Benton Center and raised in Flint. She attended Flint School and then Gorham High School, where she graduated near the top of her class. She then went on to receive a business certificate at Rochester Business School. While she was raising her children in Gorham, she was known for her seamstress, catering and wedding coordination accomplishments; drove school bus; performed courier service for BOCES; waitressed; and worked as a teller in a local bank. After her children were grown, she was a cofounder of Camp in the Woods on Lake to Lake Road, Stanley, where she continued organizing and catering special events. She was especially well known for her amazing annual cookie bazaar. Ruth lived through significant time periods from recalling zeppelins flying low over her family's farm and circus trains in Geneva to today's modern world. She lived life to the fullest. She was a world traveler and avid bird watcher who loved to cook, garden and spend time with her family. But most of all, she was a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother and is deeply missed by all. Rest in peace Mom; we love you.
