Virginia Pritchard Obituary

Virginia (Rice) Pritchard CANANDAIGUA - Virginia "Ginny" (Rice) Pritchard, age 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020. She is survived by three children, Christopher (LouAnn) Pritchard, Teresa (Jim) Fisher and Dr. Andrew (Kathy) Pritchard; two grandsons, Alexander and Dean; sister-in-law, Mary Rice; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, L. Roger Pritchard in 2004; and brother, Charles A. Rice in 1996. Ginny was born and raised in Canandaigua. She was a graduate of St. Mary's School, class of 1943, and Canandaigua Academy, class of 1947, where she was vice president of her class. Ginny began working as the secretary to the principal at Canandaigua Primary School and did so until her first child was born. She met her husband Roger in high school and they married after graduation. They bought a land crop farm in Canandaigua. Roger was also a salesman for farm minerals and supplies that Ginny did the paperwork for and which they operated for years. They occasionally went to the Grange Hall dances and worked very hard raising their children, while working their farm and salesman business. After their children grew, Ginny returned to working for the school district as a substitute secretary. She was a 4H co-leader of 14 girls, who taught sewing and crafting. Ginny was a member of the Canandaigua Home Demographics Club, St. Mary's Church and St. Vincent dePaul Society. Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home Inc., 47 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Church, 95 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent dePaul Society, 95 N. Main St., Canandaigua, NY 14424; or the National Parkinson's Foundation, 200 SE 1st St., Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131. Condolences may be offered at www.johnsonkennedy.com.

Ginny and I were classmates (CA 1947). She was nominated to be Queen of the sophomore class in 1945. Her mother worked at the City Clerk´s Office. She was a very sweet woman, which Ginny carried forward. Ginny was loved and respected by everyone in our class. Lots of good memories...
