Aaron Schmid Obituary

Aaron Alexander Schmid
09/25/1986 - 01/28/2026
Aaron Alexander Schmid, 39, of Midland, Texas, passed away on January 28, 2026, in Midland. He was born on September 25, 1986, in Midland, to Klaus Schmid and Lila Denise (Cason) Furtado, and married his wife, Jerymar Carolina (Gonzalez Tirado), on January 17, 2017, in Midland.
Aaron was known for his infectious laugh and quick wit. He could turn a phrase on demand with just enough snark and subtlety to surprise (and to sting a little). But he was also known for his intuitive ability to understand and communicate with others. He could always be counted on to listen, to contemplate, and to show compassion without judgment. He was deeply committed to family and friends and always gave of himself, asking nothing in return.
Aaron enjoyed being outdoors – particularly in the mountains and fishing on lakes. His favorite childhood memories centered on roaming the mountains of Cloudcroft, New Mexico, where his grandmother, Jo Ann "Bamo" Newsom, had a home. As he grew into adulthood and formed a family of his own with his wife, Jerymar, and son, Sebastian Alexander Schmid, he relished taking trips with his family to the Lincoln Mountains and exploring trails and streams he'd played in as a child. Aaron valued moments like these; he loved and was deeply committed to his wife and his child, and he truly appreciated little things, like seeing his wife smile in the sun or holding Sebastian's hand while he walked barefoot on rocks in a creek. He also loved traveling overseas, where he enjoyed learning about new cultures and trying new foods.
Sebastian was Aaron's greatest joy. A lifelong fan of cars, Formula 1, and racing – interests Aaron inherited from his father, Klaus – Aaron shared his passions with his son, spending hours playing with knobs inside the car and trading knowledge on makes and models of vehicles, famous drivers, and historic races. The two frequented the Petroleum Museum, where Aaron proudly showed Sebastian the photos of Aaron's Opa, Karlheinz Schmid, and great uncle, Franz Weis, who were mechanics for the Chaparral Racing Team in the '60s and '70s.
Aaron was a dutiful son, who took great care to regularly check in on and provide companionship to his mother Lila at her home in Midland. He was also blessed with a stepmother, Shonna Schmid, with whom he particularly enjoyed long talks, due to her good-natured ease and compassion, similar to his own. He and his father connected through humor and hours behind the wheel, traveling to Missouri and other locations, where they engaged in various projects. And Aaron was especially close to his sister, Chelsea Reinhard, who was the person he relied on when he needed someone to listen in the way that he did for others.
Aaron will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife, Jerymar Carolina (Gonzalez Tirado), his son, Sebastian Schmid; his father Klaus Schmid, his mother Lila Denise (Cason) Furtado, and his stepmother, Shonna Schmid; his sister, Chelsea Reinhard and her husband Martin Reinhard and his nephew Klaus Oliver Reinhard, his brother, Tyler Schmid and his fiancée Karly Wells, and his brother, Travis Schmid; his maternal grandmother, Jo Ann Newsom; his mother-in-law, Luz Marina Tirado; his hound, Blackie; and his two best friends, Bud House and Leland Baker.
Viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, beginning at 11 AM until 2 PM.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at 2 PM.

Thinking of Aaron brings to mind his sense of humor and contagious laugh. I remember him and Leland as young adults, gentle giants, enjoying every adventure with big hearts full of love for family, friends, and life. I see his smile and hear his laugh. May all his loved ones hold onto the beautiful memories you shared with Aaron and find comfort in knowing he loved you with all his giant heart.
