David Widner Obituary

David Lee Widner
12/15/1932 - 09/29/2024
David Lee Widner at age 91, of Horseshoe Bay, Texas peacefully passed on Sunday, September 29th, 2024. Dave was born on December 15, 1932 to Welby and Mary Widner in Lima, Ohio. He attended and graduated Central High School. Dave received a Bachelor's degree from George Williams College in Chicago, Illinois. Shortly after graduation, he married the love of his life Halle Ann Wilson on June 11, 1955. They were married 69 years and had three sons and one daughter.
Dave served in the Army in San Antonio, Texas. He began his working career as Physical Director of the YMCA in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1960, they moved to Midland, Texas where he continued as the Physical Director and later became the Executive Director of the Midland YMCA. In 1974, he left the YMCA and began a career in the Oil and Gas Industry with Coquina Oil Co. as a Vice President.
Shortly after retiring, Dave and Halle moved and built a home on Lake LBJ in Sunrise Beach, Texas. He enjoyed the lake life of fishing, boating, and ice cream socials. He also had a passion for golf, hunting, and his vintage Chris Craft boat. Dave and Halle took joy in hosting "Camp Widner" for all the grandchildren every summer. He loved to teach all his grandkids how to tube, wakeboard, ski, drive the boat and golf cart.
After many wonderful years living on the lakefront, they moved to a home on the golf course in Horseshoe, Bay, Texas. There he kept busy with golf and loved traveling, especially to Maine.
Dave deeply treasured his family and considered them his greatest gift and blessing from God. He also valued the many friendships he established during his entire life.
Dave was always passionate about helping others. During his YMCA years he taught numerous activities from gymnastics to scuba diving to kids of various ages. Afterwards, at The High Sky Children's Ranch he served as President and then served on the Board of Governors.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife Halle Widner; Sister: Jeanne Andrews; Sons: Steve Widner and wife Kathryn; Kevin Widner and wife Pat; Mike Widner and wife Karen; Daughter: Vicki Cates and husband Ken.

So sorry to hear of Dave's passing. He was one of the fun members of the Tuesday golf group for many years. His wit and character always made the game more fun. He and Halle hosted the group in their home on several occasions. We will all certainly miss Dave.

Mr. Widner was like a surrogate father during my childhood. I grew up at the `Y´. He was `Mr. YMCA´ to me. My heartfelt condolences, love and prayers to my high school classmate Steve and all of the family.
