Glenda Green Obituary

Glenda Jane Green, 74, former resident of Andrews, known to most as "Gigi" or "Janie," passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017 in Midland, Texas. Friends and family will gather to celebrate her life at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at City of Refuge Church in Andrews; officiating will be Reverend Larry Brewer and K.J. Stanton. Cremation is under the personal care of McNett Funeral Home of Andrews. Please celebrate the life of Janie by visiting www.mcnettfuneralhome.com Janie was born on July 11, 1943 in Knox City, Texas to Blue and Savonne Giddens. She was the middle child (and the only one with green eyes) of six children, Sam, Don, Lee, Mike, and Dorothy. She graduated from Permian High School in 1961 in Odessa, Texas. This is where she was first known as "Gigi." Many knew Janie as their sponsor, having celebrated 41 years of sobriety; she once traveled the country speaking at Alcoholics Anonymous events; she had also traveled with Betty Ford to many AA events. Her wit and humor was undeniable as was her love for Diet Coke, peanut butter crackers, and Reese's. However, her greatest love was being "Gigi" to her grandchildren. Janie was preceded in death by her son, Robert Green; her parents, Savonne Giddens and Blue Giddens; and her beloved dog, Smokie. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Ronnie and Tim Thornton of Del Rio, Texas; her son Grady LeMond of Andrews, Texas; four brothers, Sam and wife Cathy Giddens of Marble Fall, Texas, Don and wife Minnie Giddens and Lee Giddens, all of Greenville, Texas, and Mike and wife Linda Giddens of Bentonville, Arkansas; and by five grandchildren, Kilah and Patrick Flores, Katee and Matt Williamson, Reaux LeMond, Mikah and Cameron Hulan, and Taylor Green. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Timothy, Tate, Addison, Carleigh, Daulton, and Kolten; a special niece who was always by her side, Amanda Jane; and by several other nieces and nephews. The family has requested that if Janie impacted your life in any way that you come prepared to share those memories during the celebration of her life.

I met Jane in 8th grade when she moved to Odessa. She lived very close and we became great friends spending much of our time at each other's homes. She was like a sister to me. She invited me to go to church with her and I will always be thankful for that because that's where I found Jesus. I can't even begin to tell all the crazy fun things we used to do. When I moved to Kansas and got married I lost touch with her. We did connect a few times but not enough through the years. For a while we emailed frequently and I got to see her a couple of times in Andrews. She was an amazing, talented friend. I loved the letters she sent me. She was a good friend and I'm saddened to know she is gone.

Dorothy, when I listened to your message I was struck by how much your voice reminds me of her. You sound like how I remember her voice. Bless you and all of Janie's family. I remember all of you, too, from those years in Odessa. - (Polly Payne) Paulette Mattingly

I enjoyed Janie and was surprised when she asked me to take over the care of Smokie. I loved him as she did. I moved to Belize to work after he died. Janie was sharp witted and sometimes sharp tongued. I'm grateful to have known her. Susie
