James (Jim) George Miller (82) passed away on November 15, 2025 at Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland, Texas. He was born on March 9, 1943 to Jim and Jeanne Miller in Chicago, Illinois.
Growing up in Chicago, Jim was a very skillful baseball player for the Boys Major League. He lived conveniently across from Lake View High School, which he attended. Jim was an avid roller skater, working at the Rink. He also worked at the stables, where he was considered trustworthy enough to break new horses and conduct trail and hayrides.
At age 19, Jim went to San Antonio, Texas, for a visit. He felt so much at home, he went back to Chicago, packed, and came back to San Antonio where he worked as a Union Electrician.
Jim served in the Army as an Instructor for Generator Repair during the Vietnam War and was stationed at Fort Hood.
Jim's 30-year career in News Gathering and Reporting began after he attended Broadcasting School in Wisconsin. His outstanding voice and fair treatment of all that he interviewed led to several TV Anchor positions with various Television Stations in Texas and Florida. He interviewed many celebrities like Kurt Kasner, Ricardo Montalban, Gale Storm, Charlie Pride and others.
When he moved to Waco to work for KCEN-TV, he met the love of his life, LaNell (Lyn) Daniels in February, 1974. They were married in the VIP Room of the Waco Convention Center on August 9, 1974.
Jim's favorite activities were golfing, hosting a Poker Game each Wednesday night for friends, watching the Chicago Cubs baseball and the Houston Texans football. He and Lyn were in "A Christmas Carol" for ten seasons at Midland Community Theatre and he volunteered in Summer Mummers for 29 years. He especially enjoyed taking a cruise each year with Lyn to celebrate the birthday of their friend, Vince Vance of Vince Vance and the Valiants.
Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years, Wilma LaNell (Lyn) Miller and son, Dennis Wayne Miller, both of Midland.
Preceding him in death were his dad, James G. Miller who died in 1947 in Chicago; his mother, Jeanne Miller Sobota who died in 2008 in Clearwater, Florida; his brother, Jack Craig Miller who died in 2020 in Prescott, Arizona, and his uncle, Donald L. Trost, who died in 2020 in Chicago.
