Jennifer Jones Obituary

Jennifer Lynne Jones
03/07/1983 - 07/23/2023
A bright, fun, and irreplaceable light was taken from the Jones family.
Jennifer "Jenni" Lynne Jones passed away on July 23rd, 2023 at 40 years old in San Antonio, Texas. She was born to Ron and Melanie Jones on March 7, 1983 in Enid, Oklahoma. Her two younger sisters Shelby and Katie were her pride and joy, which she would tell to anyone who would listen. She began her life growing up in Mulhall, Oklahoma, first being cared for by her best friend Grandma Mac, the main contributor of the Barbie collection she would amass, for not only herself but her two future younger sisters. She thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with her Oklahoma family, including both sets of grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins which yielded laughter and genuine amusement. During her childhood, you could always find her roaming around with a herd of animals, including Hooper and Pretty Bird. She was often seen four wheeling with her uncles Tim and Tom, spending summers with her family in Enid, riding a horse while her Grandpa Mac held the reins, and playing an unforgettable game of hide and seek. She graduated from Midland High School in 2001 before obtaining her Associate's Degree in Science at Midland College in 2003. She was a student assistant to the women's basketball team while she acquired a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Kinesiology at the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2006. After graduation, she served one year as a graduate assistant women's basketball coach at Arkansas Tech University, before returning "home" to San Antonio, where she resided for 20 years until she was taken from this Earth.
If you knew Jenni, you knew she loved to be with her family, spend an afternoon leisurely shopping, and always had her nails done. Leopard print was a neutral color according to her, and she was almost always with her lovable animal co-part, Fancy the Shih Tzu. Jenni was the best at basketball out of her three sisters, as it came naturally to her. She long held the record for most three-pointers during the Byron Johnson tournament while at Midland High School. Her junior high and high school years were spent mostly on the basketball court, traveling with her summer basketball team coached by her dad, and capping her career with an undefeated District Championship. She loved a good celebration, as she always made her sisters' birthdays unbeatable year after year. Jenni enjoyed spoiling herself and everyone around her with the finer things in life. She crafted a unique, authentic, and glamorous style. She worked hard to provide the necessities and a long list of life's delicacies that she enjoyed sharing with those she loved. Creating memories and the happiness of others drove Jenni, and she always appreciated and bragged about the people in her life. She was fiercely loyal, loved her family and friends ferociously, and was loved even more. Despite not having any, Jenni loved all children as her own. She had an innate charisma that would liven any room and leave one feeling like every conversation ended too soon.
Jenni is survived by her parents, Ron and Melanie Jones of Midland, TX; grandmother Barbara Jones of Enid, OK; sister and brother-in-law Shelby and Mitchell Riley of Midland, TX; nephew Cameron Riley of Midland, TX; sister Katie Jones of Wichita Falls, TX; Edd McNeil of Silverthorne, CO; Ken and Carolyn Owens of Midland, TX; Tim McNeil of Perry, OK; Tom McNeil of Mulhall, OK; Dereck Owens of Grapevine, TX; Courtney and Nathan Luoma of Midland, TX; Sean and Mackenzie McNeil of Stillwater, OK; Stephanie and Chris Rocco of Pittsburg, PA; Heather McNeil of Guthrie, OK; and her beloved Shih Tzu's. Jenni is predeceased by her grandfather David Jones; grandfather Elliott McNeil; grandmother Darlene McNeil; aunt Donna Jones, and aunt Iris McNeil.
A private service will be held with Jenni's immediate family in Midland, Texas where she will be surrounded by a lifetime of love.
A special thank you to the friends and influential people throughout all aspects of Jenni's life that provided her with love, laughter, and happiness. We want to thank this community for loving our family during this tough time.
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1.

I was so sick when I heard today about Jenni's passing! She was friends with my son and daughter in law but was such a big part of our lives! She loved to come to our house and fall asleep on our couch. We loved that she was so comfortable at our house, like one of our kids! I am just sorry that we had lost touch with her. I am so happy to have all the good memories that we had with her! Rest in peace, Jenni!

I am just so so sorry for this loss. I am shocked and heartbroken and praying for all of your family! Jenni had the best laugh - when I think of her, I instantly can hear her laugh and see her huge smile. She brought fun and joy to any and every situation. She lived her moments to the fullest and also had such compassion for others. She was a kind soul, always looking out for others. SO many basketball memories - I can still picture her 3 pointers swishing every single time! Jenni was one of a kind, and she touched my life in a way I will never forget. This is so hard to understand, and I just ask God to surround you with His peace and comfort like only He can.

Just want to thank you ALL sooo much for all the kind words and memories.. we are choosing to believe Jenni's is up in Heaven with all those wonderful family members we used to wonder and talk about late at night, and her soul is at rest. I remember what a great kid she was, as evidenced by the many who have gotten with us the past few weeks and shared their time with our Jen... these sort of things will not be forgotten, so thank you again. You're ALL angels on this Earth. I remember the first and last time I saw her, and she was smiling both times. That makes my heart feel at peace.
Thank you again.

I'm going to miss you, my sweet girl. I will always remember the first and last time I saw you. You brought so much light, fun and energy to the McNeil/Jones families over these short 40 years. I so hope you're up in Heaven, finally with your Grandma Mac, talking with all those long-lost relatives WE used to talk and text about at night. YOU now know, even before me, who they truly are, and have spoken with them. We will all be there someday, and the Jones 5 will be back together once more. I miss you and will continue, esp during the holidays, and each time we go to San Antonio. A light was dimmed for me, which will never be lit again. And it all started at Bass Mem. hospital in Enid, Ok, at 8:30 AM, March 7.
Goodbye.....we love and miss you.

Ron, Melanie, Shelby, and Katie, my heart hurts for you.The news about Jenni was devastating to our family. Jenni was such a bright light. She played a pivotal roll in the lives of our kids as she helped us raise them. Knowing she was always available to "babysit" for us calmed our soul. She will truly be missed. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. May God wrap his arms around you and helps provide peace knowing she is in a good place now. We love you! ~The Rowleys, Austin, Tx.

Oh no... I am so so sorry. I loved Jenni... we went to high school together and remained in touch in the years after.

Just last year her and I talked for a couple of hours about puppies and life and such. She was interested in one of my bulldog puppies.

I am truly saddened to learn of her passing. My heart and prayers are with her family and those closest to her. She was truly a beautiful girl.

Jenni,
Was such an amazing person! I am so sorry to hear about this. I will always look up to her from the court and up to heaven. She has always had the best most continuous laugh. She was kind and accepting even when she didn´t have to be. She was a mentor to a lot of us younger ball players and I will never forget that! I am so blessed to have had her and her family in my life. I am so so sorry for your loss. She really was special in so many ways and nobody will ever forget that! Sending my love and prayers and peace.

Kayla and I would like to extend our deepest condolences at this time of loss for all of you. I know no words can elevate your pain at this time. No parent should ever have to bury their child.
