September 22, 1952 - May 9, 2021 Joe David Williams Jr. was born September 22, 1952, in San Angelo, Texas, to Jeanie and Joe Williams. He was raised in Ozona, Texas where he attended Ozona High School and graduated in 1971. He was quarterback for the Ozona Lions football team and led them to regional competition his senior year. David attended Angelo State University and was a member of the golf team. The next year he transferred to Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, and then to the University of Texas at Austin the following year. David was proud to be a "Longhorn" and graduated with a BS in Petroleum Land Management in 1976. He began his career as a land man in Midland, Texas where he was employed by Union Oil Company of California, and then later by Spectrum 7 Energy. In 1991 he started his own business, J. David Williams Oil and Gas Properties, and it remained a successful business until his retirement in 2020. David met Sharon (Sher) McWilliams while he was working at Union Oil Company of California in 1979 and they dated for 7 years and then married on May 10, 1986, bringing his step-daughter Lori McWilliams into his life. They were blessed with a daughter Lyndsey Allison on November 14, 1990. David was an avid golfer and enjoyed many happy times with family and friends. In his later years he became a rancher and built a second home on his property in Mills County, Texas. He enjoyed many happy times and special memories at the ranch. David loved to "go fishing on Lake Huiste", and was well known for his fishing trips among friends. Preceding David in death were his parents Constance Jean Reeves Williams and Joe David Williams Sr. Surviving David are his wife Sher Williams, daughter Lyndsey Allison Williams, daughter Lori McWilliams Gersbach and husband Richard Gersbach of Belton, brother Charles Michael Williams and wife Sharon of Mills County, Texas, and sister Karen Elizabeth and husband John Walsh of Austin. Survivors also include grandchildren Owen Gersbach and Devyn Gersbach of Belton, and numerous nieces and nephews who hold a special place in their heart for Uncle Dave. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel.
