John Starr Stiles Jr.

John Starr Stiles, Jr., a longtime resident of Midland Tx., passed away July 1st, 2011, in Galveston Tx. John was born March 18th 1928, in Raymondville Tx. A graduate of Texas A&M University, where he was a member of the ROTC, and worked in broadcasting in the early days of college radio. Upon completion of graduation, he served in the Army achieving the rank of Colonel. After retirement from the Army, he worked as an English teacher and golf coach for Martin County I.S.D., for over 25 yrs., while remaining active in the Reserve Officers Association. After retirement from teaching, he enjoyed part time work with Midland I.S.D., as a bus driver and substitute teacher. He was an avid golfer, bowler, and a member of Masonic Lodge #623 in Midland. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Stiles, Sr. & Irene Clark Stiles; brother, Edwin Lee Stiles; and sister, Irene Virginia Stiles LaBauve. He is survived by his wife, Deana Stiles; sister, Leoti Stiles Bennett; son, Greg Stiles and wife, Madeline; daughter, Lee Ann Stiles Yokem; and step daughter, Teresa Pickett; grandchildren, Graham, Jessica, Ryan, Melissa, & Andrew; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 7th, 2011, at 10:00 a.m., at Lakeview Cemetery, with Father Paul Wehner officiating.
