Joyce O'Bannon Obituary

Joyce O'Bannon
01/14/1934 - 05/19/2025
Mom passed away from a 5-year battle with Vascular Dementia. Mom was born on January 14, 1934, in Millsap, Tx. to James Floyd Langdon and Dorothy Mae Stacy Langdon, both deceased. Mom grew up in Millsap, graduating early in 1950. Mom married Dad that summer. She was a stud left-handed shooting point guard on the Millsap Bulldog women's basketball game scoring the winning basket to win district her senior year. Mom met Dad during Summer school, but they first made eye to eye contact when Dad called a strike on her in a softball game. Mom's angry eyes could burn a hole in you, and I am sure Dad felt it. Mom and Dad moved to Midland, TX in 1959 to be near her Daddy as he was terminal with cancer. In 1962 Mom and Dad purchased A-1 Business Service offering switchboard, secretarial, copying and printing services to primarily oil and gas companies. It was at A-1 that Mom interacted with darn near every independent in Midland, Tx. In 1970 Mom and Dad sold A-1 Business Service with Mom going to work with Ted Collins, Jr. Mom spent 30 plus years with Ted, retiring in 2002. Mom served as President of the Permian Basin Chapter of the Desk and Derrick Society in early 1980's having the opportunity to introduce Gov. Bill Clements. In 2009 Mom and Dad relocated to Parker Co. where she and Dad were both raised. In 2015 Mom had valve replacement surgery which started her 10-year health struggles. Mom had a mini stroke which affected her left arm. She pretty much recovered from that only to have another stroke in 2020 which affected her cognitive functions. We were forced to move her into an assisted living facility which lasted three years. The last two years were spent in Memory Care. It was a difficult time for her, especially the last three months and I am so thankful to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for coming to get Mom. Mom is survived by one sister Pat Burns; her son Rick and his wife Lisa; granddaughter Kristin and her husband Dan Durski; grandson Justin and his wife Cathy Jo and their children, her great grandchildren, Everett and Josephine Jewell. Mom's Memorial Service is scheduled for 11 AM Friday June 6, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells, TX. I am placing Mom and Dad's ashes together side by side as they have been since meeting in 1948 and burying them at their plot next to her Daddy and Mother at Fairview Cemetery, Millsap, TX. I am blessed beyond words that she was my mom.

My condolences at your loss. J worked with Joyce at HNG Oil Company in the late 70s and early 80´s. She was a beautiful lady and taught me so much about being an administrative assistant. Thank you for sharing her with me. May God hold you close during this time.
