Madison Luikens Obituary

Madison Luikens
09/16/1988 - 08/13/2023
Midland - Madison Cary (Mladenka) Luikens was released from illness and ascended to her eternal form on August 13, 2023, after a 19-month battle with brain cancer. She was 34. Instantly loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her, we remember her as pure magic and a radiant light in this world.
Madison was the beloved daughter of Mark and Cindi Mladenka, born on September 16, 1988. She grew up as an active kid in Midland, Texas, loving to run track, sing in the praise band, and spend summers with her cousins and grandparents in Ruidoso. After high school, she moved to Nashville and attended Belmont University, where she received a Religion in the Arts degree. Madison returned to Midland to work as an Assistant Youth Director at her childhood church and soon married her High School Sweetheart, Zach Luikens, in the fall of 2010.
Madison is preceded in death by her older sister, Jennifer Mladenka; her maternal grandparents, Audra and Jackie Cary; her paternal grandparents, Albin "Joe" and Mary Ann Mladenka. She is survived and grieved by her husband Zach; her parents Mark and Cindi Mladenka; her younger brother Michael and his wife Samatha; her nieces Logan, Ali, and Margot; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, friends, and dogs.
Madison loved to grow and evolve. She pursued many passions across the multiple cities where she and Zach lived. From youth director, women's retreat creator, CrossFit coach, nutritionist, gardener, dog mom, and amateur living room dancer with shoulder moves that rival any dancing queen out there. But at her core, she was an empath and a true artist. She used her experiences and internal wisdom to share her light with others. From photographing seniors before they graduate high school, to her beautiful paintings and poems, she had a magical way of genuinely making others feel seen and the ability to reflect their goodness.
Even after being diagnosed with terminal cancer, Madison never stopped creating and sharing her gifts. She entered local art shows and won awards, curated and shared heart-wrenching stories of hope and truth via her Sacred Portrait series, and encouraged others to join in her journey of healing as she embarked on an unknown path. Even still, she constantly shared tidbits of wisdom, sorrow, hope, and love.
While the world is undoubtedly dimmer without Madison, we are encouraged and at peace, knowing that the light and joy she shared still shines in those she loved and who loved her. Madison wasn't ours to keep, and we rejoice in knowing that she is forever healed and eternally singing, dancing, and creating in the heavens and among the stars.
On August 31, 2023, a public Celebration of Life service will be held at First Methodist Church in Midland, Texas, at 10 AM. Madison loved sunflowers and color, so we encourage you to forgo black and dark attire and wear something joyful to celebrate Madison's life.

You beautiful, radiant soul. You were such a vibrant force and gift to all who had the privilege of knowing you, both near and far. I will always cherish our Skype chats and little audio message check-ins over the years. I love the time we shared on your visit to Colorado. You were always quick to see and encourage and uplift those around you. The glow from your radiance and all that you contributed to this world continues and will continue to shine bright. You will be deeply missed this side of heaven.
Sending so much love to your beloved Zach.

First memory: Play-doh and "sewing" (plastic boards) projects in Ruidoso.

Favorite memories: Ruidoso trips, cards with grandpa where she won and said she was framing the ticket, when grandpa saw her shoulder tattoo and asked what it was... and Zach goes nothin grandpa. Licks his fingers and rubs her shoulder saying "it´s a stick on" and so much more. Makes me laugh still thinking about it.

Special moment: too many to count. But a conversation at her house in Midland when I had car troubles and we talked all afternoon.

She was always outgoing and creative- our plays and talent shows in Ruidoso and our conversations about anything and everything. The last visit I had with her at her dads property before she was diagnosed we slid right back into a conversation like always. And the sad part is I don´t remember most of what we discussed....

I love taking pictures - although I don´t have the skill she did, but I am going to hang a canvas print of her photo of our Granma kneading bread in my house- I´d say kitchen but our current kitchen doesn´t have space to hang pictures. December 2016. It was a good visit for multiple reasons- our grandparents last trip to Ruidoso before they passed. Dinner at Madison and Zach´s and the guys all pushed their stomachs out to see who had the largest food baby. I have so many memories and I just wish we were making more together still. Love you beautiful cousin.

I spent a fabulous weekend at the Oregon Coast with Madison & a small group of fun women in March of 2019.
It will always be one of my most favorite getaways. Madison was so easy to get to know & I enjoyed her company as if we were longtime friends. What a joyful & kind person!
She will shine for eternity.

Madison and my daughter Kayla Rigney will forever be associated with each other because of a similar diagnosis within 6 months of each other. As the mother of a daughter with Glio Blastoma Brain Cancer, my heart especially aches for your loss. Madison blessed our family by taking my youngest daughter Melody's senior portraits. I was especially impressed with her professionalism and empathy for her teenage photographic subjects. This world is not quite the same without her light in it. Our family is praying for your comfort at this time.

Madison had a spirit out of this world. A smile that always lit up the room and I had a great joy of being able to experience her presence through playing volleyball with her at MHS. God knew she was needed more beside him and we will truly miss her vibrant spirit dearly. My condolences are sent to the family. RIP BEAUTIFUL.

I "met" Madison ages ago during my own fitness journey. I never got to meet her in real life but undoubtedly Madison was a soul you could not resist. I lost my own mother to brain cancer so I know how quick and painful it can be. I will never forget Madison and her beautiful personal growth and story. You´re forever in spirit.

I never got to meet Madison, but she touched my heart. Her wisdom was her strength and power that she'd light & love. I had hoped that I would get to meet her one day.

The way she spoke and shared herself really just spoke so much of her character-she lived every moment fully.

Madison will remain a bright shining light in my life, and I will celebrate her every day with color, laughter, music, and love for one another. I'm so blessed to have seen her shortly before her spirit crossed into heaven and the stars above. Sending all my love to Zach and the rest of Madison's family and friends. May we all feel peace knowing Madison is no longer fighting cancer but instead is soaring and sprinkling her gifts over all of us.
