Michael William Foulds, 60 of Midland, TX, peacefully passed into the arms of our Savior on April 21, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Frontotemporal Degeneration and Primary Progressive Aphasia. A memorial service will be held Monday April 28, 2025 at 1:00PM at Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland, TX.
Michael was born on March 27, 1965 in Greenville, TX. He moved to Midland as a toddler and made it his primary residence before and after college until his death. Michael graduated from Midland High School in 1983 and Texas Tech University in 1992.
Upon graduating college Michael began what would become a 31-year career in professional sales. He was a proficient salesman and worked in the pharmaceutical, surgical/medical device, and oilfield sales. Michael's outgoing nature and charismatic smile made people feel comfortable around him and he made friends wherever he went. Michael married his wife of 36 years Teri (Smith) in 1988 and together they raised 3 children. He and Teri enjoyed traveling together and were able to visit many locations in the U.S. and internationally before his diagnosis.
Throughout his life, Michael was a talented athlete and enjoyed and excelled in many sports that helped shape close relationships with his children, friends and family members. He played baseball in high school and played on many softball and basketball teams and leagues, but his true love was golf. His dad Carl fostered his love of this sport, and he continued to play until the progression of the disease made it too difficult to continue. He passed on his love of sports to his boys Sutton and Sawyer, teaching them from a young age how to swing a golf club and a bat, kick, catch, throw, and bounce a ball, golf course etiquette, and how to win and lose gracefully. They enjoyed quality time together attending as many live sporting events as they could and developed a love of deep-sea fishing, taking many fishing expedition trips together. With his daughter Sloan, he learned how to be a cheer and dance dad, spending many weekends at dance recitals, football games, and in loud gyms watching and cheering her on. He enjoyed a close relationship with both his father-in-law, brothers in law, and nephews as they spent many vacations together which included attending baseball games and playing a round of golf. In recent years he enjoyed spending time with his mother and sister in Dallas.
Michael is survived by his wife Teri (Smith) Foulds, sons Sutton Coy Foulds and Sawyer Michael Foulds, and daughter Sloan Avery Foulds. his mother Judy (Case) Hadaway and father-in-law Jerry Hadaway, sister Casey Foulds, brother Bill Brewer, brothers in law Phillip (Mary) Smith, and Scott (Janet) Smith, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father Dr. Carl Foulds, grandparents Max and Lucille Foulds and Leland and Mary Casey, and his mother and father-in-law Frances and Jim Smith.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the local agencies and services who provided care and support throughout Michael's illness. The Aphasia Center of West Texas connected Michael with a community of friends who loved him and gave him the tools necessary to cope in the early stages of his disease. They also provided Teri the opportunity to learn new ways to communicate with Michael as he was losing this ability and with much needed respite as a caregiver. The Aphasia Center helped bridge a gap and we are most thankful for your guidance and wisdom.
We are forever grateful for all the support provided by the nurses, aides, directors, support staff, and volunteers at Manor Park Vogel Center who made a new home for Michael when he could no longer be safely supported at home. Your love, patience, kindness, compassion and grace were such a blessing to not only Michael but to his family.
We also deeply appreciate the Hospice of Midland who provided the much-needed support in the final months of this disease. Thank you for taking such exceptional care of him and the family.
Michael donated his brain to a university research study in hopes of one day finding a cure for this rare disease that strikes the able bodied far too young.
