Patsy Harrison Obituary

Patsy Maurine Slaid Harrison, 82, of Midland, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016 in Midland, Texas. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Greenwood Baptist Church Cemetery in Midland. A Celebration Service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at KD's Bar-B-Q in Midland with lunch to follow. Patsy was born on August 10, 1933 to Walter Augustus Slaid and Cordie Maurine Dunn Slaid in Carlisle, Texas. She married Bobby (Bo) Wayne Harrison, Sr. January 24, 1951 prior to graduating from Carlisle High School. Bo and Patsy began their life together in Tyler, Texas. Patsy worked at Piggly Wiggly in the meat market. This is where her knowledge of cooking began. She could still tell you where each cut of meat came from and which one would be the best for what you were cooking. Bo's career with Marathon Oil Company took the family to Tripoli, Libya during a tumultuous time in that country. After narrowly escaping, it was on to Iraan, Texas, where Patsy continued her education taking business classes at the high school, working, and raising three children. She loved kids so they always had a yard, house, or car full. It was nothing for family and friends to drive 4-1/2 hours to Lake Buchanan for the weekend. We would have fried fish and Patsy's famous jalapeno hush puppies. Patsy was an exceptional cook, with many special recipes that we all cherish to this day. Our next home was Midland, where she worked for Southwestern Bell, Dannye Bristow, and Perry Gas Company. Upon Bo retiring in 1983, they moved to the Hill Country and Lake Buchanan. Many hours were spent at the lake with lots of family and dear friends. Lots of love and laughter filled those walls. When Bo's health began to fail, Patsy and Bo moved back to Midland in 2005 to be closer to family. Patsy was always looking forward to the next family get-together. She is now having the biggest reunion of her life. She is survived by her three children, Bobby Wayne Harrison, Jr. and wife Shari of Greenwood, Jim and wife Kathy of Midland, and Cindy of San Angelo; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; her sister, Betty Jo Martin of Trinity, Texas; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter Augustus Slaid and Cordie Maurine Dunn Slaid; a brother, Jackie Wayne Slaid; and by her husband of 59 years Bobby (Bo) Wayne Harrison, Sr. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be donated to Home Hospice of Midland, 200 W. Illinois Ste. 190, Midland TX 79701; or the The Alzheimer's Association, 4400 N Big Spring, Ste. C-32, Midland, TX 79705. The family would like to thank all of the staff from Home Hospice, Legacy Ranch Alzheimer's Care Center, and Manor Park for all of their care and support for Patsy. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences can be made at www.npwelch.com.
