Richard Lyell Wright
Born 3/17/1956 Died 8/23/2025

Richard Lyell Wright, March 17, 1956 – August 23, 2025, was born in Trenton, NJ to Harold Wright and Evelyn Wright. He moved throughout his childhood while growing up in a family devoted to and serving in The Salvation Army. After numerous moves around the country the family settled in Junction City, KS where Richard attended school and he developed valued friendships that continued through his life. After graduating high school, Richard enlisted in the Navy where he was stationed on the USS Bainbridge for its WesPac tours. He always cherished his Navy experience, the world travel, and the friendships formed.
After leaving the Navy, he met and married his wife of 40 years, Teresa. Together they raised two daughters, Courtney Lynn Watkins and Reagan Lee Wright. His children were the light of his life and he devoted numerous years to helping, coaching, and celebrating them and their sports, activities and accomplishments. He was especially proud of the amazing people they became. His most recent source of pride was his granddaughter, Kinslee Watkins, who brought new joy.
Richard is survived by his wife, daughters and granddaughter. He is also survived by his brothers, Ronald Wright (Joan), Douglas Wright, David Wright (Avis), and nieces and nephews, Timothy, Amanda, Nicole, Matthew, Nathan, Ari, Brooke, Hunter and Gunner. While his family gatherings were always loud and eventful, they were always full of love and he eagerly looked forward to them.
His legacy of love, laughter, and devotion will live on in the hearts of those who called him husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
