Sam Rhodes Obituary

Sam Hugh Rhodes passed away at his home February 28, 2014, after a 14 year battle with COPD lung disease. He was born to Bill Rhodes and Fay Jones Rhodes on May 19, 1930. Sam was raised on farms in Howard and Martin Counties. He traveled the world with his family, working in the drilling industry. He was a very hard worker and was an incredible oil man. Sam lived in West Texas, New Mexico, Iran, Libya, Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela. He enjoyed fishing and the fish always got bigger and bigger each time he told the story. He enjoyed camping with his family and friends. Sam was an avid gardener and could grow anything; he definitely had a green thumb. One of his passions was breeding, raising and training hunting dogs. He developed great friendships with many of the quail hunters in the area. Sam was a loving grandpa to his grandson Dylan who will miss his grandpa! Sam is survived by his wife, Delorise Rhodes; their daughter, Stacy and her husband Dave Sronce; son, Brett Rhodes; daughter-in-law, Lynn Rhodes and grandson Dylan. He is also survived by his sister, Jonnie Marie Foreman; brothers, Dusty and James; aunt, Joni Lu Wright; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family. We would like to thank their wonderful neighbors, Carl and Pam Brown, for their support and friendship. We would also like to thank Joe Banks for being a great friend to our dad for all of these years. We would like to thank Barbara and Leslie Rhodes for being there for our mother all of these years. We would also like to thank Jonnie Marie Foreman for all of her support. Thank you to everyone for being there for our family during this sad time and you know who you are. A private ceremony will be held with immediate family, per Sam's request.
