Sharon Hollis-Rogers Obituary

Sharon Joyce Gaston Hollis-Rogers, 76, of Midland, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 6, 2016. The family will receive friends at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland, Texas on Thursday, March 10, 2016 between 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2016 at Resthaven Memorial Park. Sharon was born November 13, 1939 in Hobbs, New Mexico to Bernice and Burl Gaston. She was raised in Hobbs and graduated from Hobbs High School and married Ray Hollis August 27, 1957. Together they raised two daughters before he passed away 30 years later. Sharon was a loving homemaker and loved taking care of her family. She was a member of First Baptist Church and loved her church. She taught Sunday school for over 30 years and worked as a Director of Sunday School, and served on many committees. She was a Brownie Scout Leader, member of Order of Eastern Star #253, Rainbow Secretary, PTA Secretary at Jane Long Elementary, Auxiliary Pink Lady for Hobbs Lea County General Hospital and Midland Memorial Hospital, Volunteer for Junior Achievement, Hospice volunteer and a member of Phi Theta Kappa Society, always involved in all activities of her family. She enjoyed many friends, movies, dancing, a good book, and playing and winning Skip Bo and Words With Friends. She was much loved by her children, grandchild, great-grandsons, and devoted husband. She was employed part-time at KCRS Radio when her daughters started school. Full time employment evolved later and she moved on as Deputy Clerk for State Court; Deputy Clerk for Federal Court; in later years, she retired from Midland College. She also earned her degree from Midland College. She is survived by her beloved husband, Jerry D. Rogers of Midland; daughter, Gwendolyn Hollis Haney and husband Jay of Midland; daughter, Gaylene Hollis Burfield and husband Buddy of San Angelo; granddaughter, Jennifer Harkey of Midland; two great-grandsons, Jacob Harkey and Jayden Harkey of Midland; and stepchildren, Raye Lynn Kirkland and Rick Rogers. She is preceded in death by late husband, Ray Hollis; parents, Bernice and Burl Gaston; and brother, Kenneth Gaston. We, the family, would like to offer our sincere gratitude for the exceptional care from Dr. Staton Awtrey, Dr. Leela Lella, Dr. Satish Mocheria, and the CCU Nursing Staff of MMH for their love and consideration that went above and beyond their duties, especially Scott Turner, RN and Aimee Marshall, RN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Pink the Basin, (P.O. Box 62122, Midland, TX 79711); Midland College, Baptist Crisis Center, Hospice of Midland; or any charity of your choice. Sharon will be greatly missed. I was privileged to work with Sharon and Ray in Eastern Star and on the Rainbow Girls Advisory Board. So glad that I was able to visit with her during the Christmas holidays and meet her husband.
