Douglas P. Joyce, 21, died August 12, 2016. He was born to Ann and Doug Joyce in Voorhees, NJ. He lived in Southampton, Tabernacle and Medford Lakes before moving to North Carolina with his family a few years ago. He graduated from Shawnee High School and was to begin the Welding Program at Surry Community College this fall. His favorite things to do were fishing, spending time with his dog Koda, mudding in his Jeep, playing Xbox, skateboarding, biking, listening to music and family vacations. We have all been truly blessed to have had the time we did with Douglas while he was here with us. He will be missed by his many, many friends especially his close knit crew of best friends he grew up with. He will also be missed by his best friends in North Carolina. He worked at a local pizza place as a cook and delivery driver. The owners, the Volk family were his "second family" and meant so much to him, along with all of his co-workers. Douglas was truly a loving and kind person who would be there for anyone at any time, with a smile. He was a true friend to anyone he met who had the honor of meeting him during his life. Douglas is survived by his mother Ann (McMillin) Joyce and his "stepfather" Carl Kaiser, his brother Matthew and his sister Samantha, both at home; his maternal grandmother Joan McMillin and paternal grandmother Grace Joyce; many aunts, uncles and cousins that he loved so very much. He was preceded in death by his father Douglas Joyce and his maternal grandfather John McMillin and paternal grandfather Mike Joyce. A celebration of Douglas's life will be held on Sunday, August 21 at Dobson Square Park from 12 to 3:30 p.m. located at 110 South Crutchfield Street, Dobson, NC. His family welcomes you to attend. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending donations to the Surry County Animal Shelter, 172 County Home Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
