Gurnie Phillips Obituary
Gurnie Arlis Phillips, 86 of Cana, VA, went home to be with his savior on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. Mr. Phillips was born on July 10, 1935, in Carroll County to the late Alex and Lucida Sechrist Phillips. Arlis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him. Left to cherish his memories are wife of 66 years, Mary Lee Jones Phillips; son, Joey Phillips; grandchildren, Chad Phillips and Leigh Ann, Karissa Phillips and Daniel Street; one step granddaughter, Martina Hall; two great-grandchildren, Brystal, and Benjamin Arlis Phillips; sisters, Beatrice Ferguson, Brenda Waldon; brother, Glennwood Phillips. Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his mother and father along with sisters, Magdalene Sutphin, Leola McMillian, and a brothers, Virgil and Bernard Phillips. A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, May 21, at Paul Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Justin McCreary officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 21, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
