CANA, Va. — Mr. Jackie Rudolph Hawks, 72, of Cana, Va., passed away at his home Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014. He was born in Carroll County, Va., on Feb. 8, 1941, to the late Cleaver Clifton and Emaline Ward Tate Hawks. Mr. Hawks retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a dedicated member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. He was a man of integrity, a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Mr. Hawks is survived by his wife of 52 years, Juanita H. Hawks of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Janie and James Dutton Sr. of Cary; a son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan C. and Teresa R. Hawks of Fancy Gap; grandchildren, James W. Dutton Jr., Jennifer Leigh Dutton, Isaac John Hawks and Lucas Daniel Hawks; sister and brothers-in-law, Joanne and Dan Inman of Sanford, and Jim Thomas of Cana; brother and sister-in-law, Everett L. and Cora E. Hawks of Cana; and two nephews, Carl Hawks and Bruce Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Orene Hawks and Frankie H. Thomas; two brothers, Burley Odell Hawks and Junior Hawks; and a niece, Linda K. Edwards. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at Oak Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. David Sechrist officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy where the body will remain until the time to be taken to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.
