CANA,Va. — Mrs. Joyce Combs King, 81, of Cana, VA, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, November 13, 2017. She was born in Carroll County VA, June 29, 1936, to the late Demps and Lucy Cagle Combs. Mrs. King was a loving, mother, grandmother to her six children, 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Sunday dinners were a cherished family tradition. She was a faithful member of Paul's Creek Baptist Church and attended as long as her health allowed. She will be remembered for the many years she taught VBS, and all the children she provided a ride. Mrs. King loved singing, and was a long-time choir and music director at church. She was also known for her famous red velvet cake and coconut pies which she gave in love to many. Left to cherish her memories are her children and their spouses, Paul King, Helen and Norris Dollyhite, Marilyn Edwards, Mark and Michelle King, Sherry and Chris Hill, and Jane and Tim Hawks; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ima Newman, and Elza Jones; brothers and sister-in-law, Marvin and Vera Combs, and Verlon and Hazel Combs. In addition to her parents, Mrs. King was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Morgan King; a daughter-in-law, Mary Edwards King; a son-in-law, Ronnie Dale Edwards; sisters, Lessie Leonard and Iva Vass; a brother, Wade Combs. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 16, 2017, at Paul's Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Justin McCreary and Rev. Tim Hawks officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy where her body will remain until the time to leave for the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family would like to extend thanks to the church family and community for the kindness shown during her declining health as well as a special thanks to the Cana Rescue Squad for their efforts and kindness.
