Elizabeth Mayfield "Libby" Matthews Combs, 70, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday evening, April 27, 2021, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Combs was born May 11, 1950, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Patricia Matthews Hester. Libby retired as a secretary from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety after many years of service. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Van Deleigh Combs of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Ginger Michele and Doug Lischke of Keswick, Virginia; a son, Travis Deleigh Combs of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, Lilly Lischke and Will Lischke, both of Keswick, Virginia; a special sister, Devona Shumate of Mount Airy; a sister, Patsy Baskin of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Wanda Matthews of Hickory; and several nieces and nephews. A private memorial service will be held for her immediate family.
