Patricia Katherine Neal Hicks, 88, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday afternoon, Dec. 26, 2020, at Chatham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkin. Mrs. Hicks was born Aug. 22, 1932, in Surry County, one of 12 children born to the late Eugene Jessup and Mattie Rogers Neal. Katherine graduated from Mount Airy High School in 1950. She was a loving and devoted housewife for many years. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Walter Neal and Lisa Hicks of East Bend; a granddaughter and her husband, Christina Dawn and Clay Baker of Winston-Salem; a great-grandson; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Lee Hicks; a daughter, Karen Leigh Hicks; five sisters, Avis Neal Lambert, Geneva "Jackie" Neal Monday, June Neal Cooke, Mildred Neal Deatherage, and Mattielene Neal; and six brothers, J. Ervin Neal, Thomas Graham Neal, Bernard Neal, Ted Ashley Neal, Erdman Neal, and Joe Bill Neal. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. at Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with the Rev. Lee Johnson officiating. No formal visitation will be held. Due to public health concerns, attendees are requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Surry County Health and Nutrition Center, ATTN: CRC Grant Services, 1218 State Street, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or the Activities Fund at Chatham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 700 Johnson Ridge Road, Elkin, NC 28621.
