Prinston Abany McCarther, 81, of Randallstown, Maryland, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, after a brief illness. He was born in Mount Airy to the late Charlie Eugene and Flora Ann Hatcher McCarther. He was the third of twelve children. He was a graduate of Winston-Salem Teachers College and Loyola College in Maryland and a lifelong member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He worked as an Educator in Baltimore, Maryland for more than 30 years. Prinston was an avid golfer and billiards player. His other hobbies included going to the casino, painting, playing Scrabble, listening to blues and jazz music, and doing volunteer work. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandsons. Prinston leaves to cherish his memory, son, Steven McCarther (Tonya) of Richmond, Virginia; daughter, Gloria McCarther of Baltimore; grandsons, Miles and Mason McCarther; devoted companion of 16 years, Brenda Young of Pikesville, Maryland; sisters, Marjorie Brown and Debra Williams of Mount Airy, Vickie Ford (James) of Lexington; brothers, Thomas McCarthur of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Bishop Langston McCarther (Louvenia) of Winston-Salem, Morris McCarther (Carol) of Summerfield, Keith McCarther (Christie Rockwell) of Newark, Deleware; sisters-in-law, Laura McCarther of Brooklyn, New York, Gloria McCarther of Morehead City, Ruby Lang (Eddie) of Florence, South Carolina, and Leona McFadden of Longs, South Carolina; brother-in-law, Esco McFadden (Pat) of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Eugene and Flora Ann McCarther; his wife of 37 years Rose McCarther; infant grandson Quincy McCarther; sisters Felecia McCarther and Elder Vanessa Tyson; and brothers Alfred Bernard and Colonel Trevathan McCarther. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 6, at Chestnut Ridge Primitive Progressive Baptist Church, Mount Airy, where the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with services to follow. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to: The Prinston A.
