Rachel Golding Gentry, age 82, of Chapin, South Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on July 7, 2023. She was born in Surry County, May 23, 1941, the daughter of the late Dock and Allie Flippin Golding. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Mimi), sister and friend. Mrs. Gentry was retired from public education and a member of Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church in Irmo, South Carolina. She was known for her cooking and love for gardening and never missed an opportunity to share God's love through her kind generous nature that was a blessing to everyone who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Roger Gentry; son, Russell Gentry (Missy); daughter Dr. Julie Stephens (Jeff); grandchildren, Russell Richard Gentry Jr., Rachel Elizabeth Gentry, Clinton James Roger Gentry, Sarah Annette Stephens, Laurel Eleanor Stephens, and James Price Stephens; sisters, Connie Barnes, Sarah Lou Beane, Lillar Hayes (Carl), Shyrell Boyette (Bob); brothers, W.B. "Dub" Golding, Artis Golding (Jean), Roger Golding (Nancy), Harold Golding (Trudy), and Joe Golding (Sandra). In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Mondell Lawrence; brothers, Charles Golding and Leon Golding. Funeral services will be held Thursday July 13, at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Chapel of Mount Airy with Rev. Tony Holder officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery in Lowgap. The Gentry family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:30 until 2 p.m.. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 6952 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29212, Mountain View Baptist Church, 8704 West Pine St., Lowgap, NC 27024 or Oxford Masonic Orphanage, 600 College St., Oxford, NC 27565. Russ julie and family...
Your Rachel was one of the first to greet me and make me feel welcome at st andrews pres when i married my don back in 1984....I knew no one and she helped me plug in with helping with sun school and always was a bright spot each sunday. Such a beautiful soul and lady in the Lord and so thankful that I knew her. Know your heart is heavy in this great loss. Dolly and Don Montgomery
