It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Suzanne Walker Key, 55, who peacefully concluded her courageous three-year battle with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, while surrounded by her closest friends and family, on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024. Suzanne was born on June 1, 1969, in Somerville, NJ. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Sean Christopher Key; and her cherished father, Donald Trenton Walker. Suzanne was a dental hygienist who loved her job but loved her coworkers and patients most of all. She fought hard to keep working throughout her battle with cancer, and when she was unable to work it became her biggest goal to get back the patients and coworkers she loved most. Suzanne is survived by her devoted husband and best friend of 31 years, Charles Travis Key. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering companionship. In those beautiful years, Suzanne and Travis built a beautiful life together and raised four incredible children. Suzanne was an extraordinary mother, always going above and beyond, putting her heart and soul into her family. Suzanne's strength was evident to everyone who knew her. She faced her battle with cancer with remarkable courage, humor, and grace, embodying resilience even in the most challenging moments. To know Suzanne was to feel the warmth of her kindness and the depth of her loyalty. Her laughter was infectious, her spirit unbreakable, and her love for others was a gift that lifted those around her. Suzanne was not only a loving wife and mother but also a friend whose presence brightened every gathering. Her life was a tapestry woven with countless memories of time spent with her family and friends - moments she cherished the most. Her heart was her most precious gift to those fortunate enough to be part of her world. To be loved by Suzanne was a blessing beyond measure. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her, a legacy of love, strength, and grace. In addition to her husband, Suzanne is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Chloe Key and Aaron Sechrist; two sons, Cody Key and Dakota Key; a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Jean Walker; her mother-in-law, Pat Scott; and a special aunt, Gina Bullington. A service of worship and celebration of Suzanne's life will be held on Thursday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Grant Atkins officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 12 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Surry Cancer Awareness Team, 201 Bluff Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
