Allen Lee Kohler, Jr.
September 22, 1947 - November 22, 2022
Allen Lee Kohler, Jr. was born the 22nd of September 1947 in Butte Montana to Allen Lee Kohler Sr. and Dorothy Dean Gray. Allen is the oldest of his family, with his brother Kyle and sister Cindy. From his youth, Allen displayed a love and respect for the outdoors and all the wonders that it contains. Allen enjoyed hunting, fishing, crystal digging, gardening, raising waterfowl, and most any sport. Allen graduated Butte High School in 1965. He attended College at Ricks College (Rexburg, Idaho), Montana Tech (Butte Montana), and Western Montana College (Dillon Montana). Allen left his college career with a Master of Science Degree in Education and Guidance Counseling and his sweetheart, Nora Linderman Kohler. Allen and Nora were married on August 23, 1969. Allen worked his way through his higher education. He was proud of his time in the under-ground mines of Butte. He had many experiences there that taught him the value of hard work. His father, who worked as a sampler for the Anaconda Company guided him through his mining experience. Allen left the mines of Butte to work the schools of Butte. Allen taught at the Kennedy and Hillcrest Elementary schools, including coaching track, football, and basketball. He retired from the Butte School District in 2002, after teaching for 33 years. After a brief stint as a substitute teacher, Allen continued his career as a Guidance counselor for the Ramsey School district, finally retiring permanently in 2019. Allen's joy in teaching could be seen and felt by those who attended his classes. Many people throughout Butte have been touched by his ability to see a person's potential and then enabling them to find success, throughout his 50 plus year career.
A corner stone of Allen's life was his love for his family and his faith in Jesus Christ. Allen was Sealed for Time and Eternity to his love, Nora, on the 18th of April, 1970, in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Allen and Nora raised their children with the belief that families are united with a bond that lasts through eternity. Allen faithfully served in many leadership positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Since his youth, he used his many musical talents to provide music for his local congregation. Allen mastered the pipe organ through self-study and perseverance.
Allen passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2022, after a long battle with dementia. He was surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Dorothy Kohler, and his son, Mark Allen Kohler. Allen is survived by his wife Nora Kohler (Rexburg, Idaho); children: Ora Wright (Saratoga Springs, Utah), Jennifer and Kurt Oliverson (Preston, Idaho), Benjamin Kohler (Butte, Montana), Keri and Monty Bucholz (Bozeman, Montana), and Robert and Dani Kohler (Rexburg Idaho); 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

It is with a heavy heart to hear about my friend. Allen guided myself and many more folks at the Hillcrest, always the perpetual optimist. He was one in a million!

One of my favorites. He was called to serve as bishop, I believe when I served as an LDS missionary in Butte, in 1987/1988. he took me fishing when I returned a couple years later. God´s blessings to him and his family. Praise be to God for the knowledge we have that this separation is temporary.
