Betty Newgard, 71, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, in Butte, of complications from diabetes.
She was born June 16, 1934, to the late Preston and Selma Varner in Baker. She grew up in Butte and attended local schools.
Betty worked at the old St. James Hospital. In 1957, she married Richard Newgard and became a housewife and they were blessed with five children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; brothers, Duffy and Larry Varner; sister-in-law, Ethel Schneider; nephews, Tim Hinch, Ken Schneider and Billy Alexander.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Ed and Deb Newgard, Diane and Doug Jakovac, Bob Newgard, Karen and Roy Marshall, and Michele Newgard, all of Butte; grandchildren, Daniel and Preston Newgard, Nicole (Jakovac) and Gary Swoboda, Levi Jakovac, Kyle Marshall, Kyndra Newgard and Skyler Newgard Dinius born Jan. 23, 2006, a new grandson she never got to see, all of Butte; brother and sister-in-law, Rich and Peggy Varner of Missoula; sister, JoAnn Hamody of Fall City, Wash.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill and Marion Alexander of Butte, Jerry and Sharon Berger of Kalispell, Mike Schneider of Butte; many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Private services will be held at a later date per family request where ashes will be released of both Rich and Betty. A memorial book will be available at Duggan Dolan Mortuary Wednesday and Thursday for those wishing to express condolences.
Memorials: Our Lady of the Rockies, Cystic Fibrosis, Diabetes Foundation or to a charity of donor's choice.
Betty enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren and will be forever remembered as a very loving, caring and giving person.

Betty was a very nice person although I didn't know her well but knew her husband Rich very well as I had worked with him many years past. May they both be reunited in Heaven and rest in peace.
