David Knight Obituary

Pastor David L. Knight

March 25, 1949 - June 16, 2025

Pastor David L. Knight of Butte, MT, died 6/16/2025 at St. James Hospital in Butte. He was 76 years old, and very committed to our Lord.

David was born in Philadelphia, PA, on March 25th, 1949, and lived in Langhorne, PA, for the first 27 years of his life. He moved to Levittown, PA, for 9 years, then to Montana in 1985. He lived in Augusta for 16 years, moved to Butte in 2001, and was there for the rest of his life.

He graduated from Bishop Egan High School, Fairless Hills, PA, in 1967. He received his degree from Philadelphia College of Bible in Langhorne, PA, in 1983. It is now Cairn University.

He was an Air Force veteran, serving from 1969 to 1973 in Vietnam, and later in the Strategic Air Command with postings in Guam and Thailand.

In his final decade he was active in the Civil Air Patrol as a unit Chaplain as a Major.

He worked at Pathmark Supermarkets for 11 years after leaving the service and before becoming a pastor. He served at Augusta Community Church and the Dearborn Chapel from 1985 to 2001, and then at Heritage Bible Church in Butte from 2001 until his retirement in 2021. Both churches were with the Rocky Mountain Bible Mission. In Augusta he also worked at the Manix store, and in Butte he also worked for the Montana Standard and at McDonalds.

For 25 years he was deeply involved with Operation Christmas Child. OCC is a project of Samaritan's Purse, which is first and foremost an evangelistic organization that spreads the Gospel of Jesus Christ all around the world. It also helps the needy and provides aid in disaster areas. OCC sends shoeboxes to children around the world. Each box contains the story of Salvation, and gifts, which are a tangible way to show God's love. Samaritan's Purse follows up with the recipients of each gift so they can learn more about the Gospel.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mildred (Staudenmayer-Sutton) Knight...married on 9/25/76., their children, David L. Knight, Jr.,, Jonathan P. Knight (Corrie Lavina), Deborah E. (Kevin) Fox and their grandson, Ethan Fox. Also his brother, Steve (Pat) Knight and their family, and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Freiter Knight and his mother, Doris (Sutton) Knight, and grandparents (paternal), George Mushier Knight and Jennie (Freiter) Knight, and (Maternal), Harry Peters Sutton and Althea (Alken) Sutton.

We thank Axelson Funeral and Cremation Services. They were very understanding and helpful, taking care of our family.
