Dominic Kelly Obituary

Dominic Joseph "Charmo Bravo" Kelly, 63

April 18, 1958-February 23, 2022

Dominic Joseph "Charmo Bravo" Kelly passed away unexpectedly in Butte on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. He was 63 years old.

Dominic was born on April 18, 1958 in Butte. His birthday was the date of the first Dodger game played in Los Angeles. Not coincidentally, he was a lifelong Dodger fan. He attended Washington School and West Junior High School. He graduated from West in 1982.

Dominic worked at the Butte Sheltered Workshop for several years. After an illness, he was placed at the Mountain View Social Development Center in 1990 where he worked until his death. He loved the staff and his friends at Mountain View, Butte Sheltered Workshop and Holman Group Home.

Dominic was very outgoing; there were no strangers in his life. He loved Elvis Presley, the Dodgers and the Grizzlies with a sometimes startling passion. He won numerous dance contests at Butte Copper Kings games. He spent many hours using bowling and baseball games on his Play Station. He bowled every Monday at Star Lanes with his Scooby Doo bowling ball and the other members of Mountain View. He often bowled for pie; often hitting the score of 85 to get a coconut cream pie. He was a charter member of both People First and Aktion Club. He participated in Special Olympics and had many ribbons and medals to prove it. Dominic won a hand-lettered ribbon at the first Special Olympics held in Butte.

Dominic was the first person to turn to when a hug was needed. He gave them abundantly. His joys were simple, and a reminder that worth should be measured by how deeply a person could feel. He hated anything that would cause pain to anyone he loved. As the youngest of five, he knew what it was to be teased. He teased right back. He was also known as Charmo Bravo Rock Star Singer.

He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing at social functions, as well as rehearsing to his CDs, while wearing his latest headphones. He liked going to the radio station where his sister Mary worked so he could see all his friends there. He also appreciated being given a lot of air time so he could discuss his grievances about everything from the weather to his favorite sports team.

He was preceded in death by his devoted Grandmother Teresa Ferrando, his parents Frank H. and Pat Kelly, his sisters Catherine Downing and Mary Kelly, his uncle and aunt Dominic and Dorothy Ferrando and his nephew Andy Downing. He is survived by sister Teresa and her husband R.C Snyder of Missoula, brother Frank Kelly and his wife Sue of Rapid City South Dakota. He is also survived by nephews and nieces Jim Snyder and his wife Allie; Deann Snyder; Kelly, Anne and Danny Downing; Matt Kelly and his wife Andrea; John Kelly and his wife Sheri and Sarah Kennison; and numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving is his cousin Mike Ferrando and his wife Debbie and his children Anna and Anthony.

Services for Dom will be announced at a later time, probably this summer when travel is more feasible. Memorials may be made to Mountain View Social Development Center 2100 Farragut, Butte Montana 59701; the Holman Group Home 904 West Park Street, Butte Montana 59701; or Butte Sheltered Workshop Inc. 845 S Wyoming, Butte Montana 59701

Sorry to hear about "Dom". He loved music and was a treat to work with along with his other classmates at the Old Washington School.I hope that I had given them as much enjoyment, through Music,as he and his classmates gave me about Life in general. May God continue to Bless his family as Dominic was such a Blessing to many.

To the Kelly family, please accept my deepest condolences at the passing of Dominic. He was given by God to all of us as a treasure to love and behold. I loved him dearly and had a special connection to him through the music we both loved. There will be a celebration in heaven that will rival anything we have ever seen as Dominic receives his reward for the love, courage and compassion he spread while on this earth. Till we meet again my friend....Gene O'Neill
