Kenneth M. Knudson of Billings, formerly of Harlowton, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006.
He was born in Shawmut on Nov. 17, 1916, to Maurice G. and Ruby Green Knudson. He went to school in Vananda and Forsyth before moving with his family to Clinton, Iowa, during the Depression.
Ken was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nehenta Bay in the South Pacific. He was honored to be in the service at the same time as his three younger brothers.
After the war, Ken returned to Montana and settled in Harlowton with his 6-year-old son, Gary. There he met Dortha Bacon, and they were married on June 2, 1950.
Ken worked for Holmes Chevron for 20 years and the Milwaukee Road, retiring in 1980.
After retirement, he worked at Budge Honey, and later enjoyed delivering fuel for Leary's Exxon.
He was a member of the Harlowton Volunteer Fire Department and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Ken always took pride in his garden, spending many hours there. He also enjoyed playing his steel guitar and harmonica.
We will always be thankful for Dad's quick sense of humor, loving kindness, and smile. Because his hair never grayed, Dad looked more like our son than our father.
Ken especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; wife; infant son, Robert; sisters, Vernice and Gladys; and brothers, Paul, Lyle, and Don.
He is survived by his sons, Gary of Spokane, Jim, (Jan) of Billings, and Rich (Sue) of Harlowton. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Kenny, Chris, Tawny, Lisa, Julie, Amy, Colleen, Jill, and Kevin; and great-grandchildren, Kole, Kody, Bailey, Jaden, Dominic, Ashton, and Makenzie. Other survivors include his sister-in-law, Alice Knudson of Clinton, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in Perkins Funeral Chapel in Harlowton at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, with burial to follow in the Harlowton Cemetery.
