Patsy Garrett Obituary
Patsy Ann Thomas Garrett, 85, of Billings, Montana, passed away on June 16, 2024 at River Ridge Rehab and Nursing under the care of Stillwater Hospice. Her family and friends were near. Patsy Ann was born on March 2, 1939 to Patricia Margaret Freebourn and Rodrick Due Leggatt. Patsy Ann's father passed away when she was 2 years old in a motor vehicle accident.
Shortly after the accident, Patsy Ann's mother met George Edward Thomas. They were married on March 2, 1957. George was enlisted in the army, so Patsy Ann and her mother moved in with George's parents, Ann and Arthur Thomas. Patsy Ann was raised by George's mother Ann who Patsy Ann affectionately called "Grandma Kate." Patsy Ann was formally adopted by George when she was around 6 years old and spent much of her time with "Grandma Kate" while her parents worked outside the home.
Patsy Ann's only sibling, Edward was born on October 18, 1949. Patsy Ann attended Webster Garfield Grade School and graduated from Butte High School in May of 1957. In High School Patsy Ann began to date Alan Roy Garrett. They married on her 18th birthday in 1957.
Patsy Ann's and Alan's first daughter, Karen, was born on February 15, 1958. She was joined by another sibling, daughter Kathryn Ann on August 27, 1959. Alan Roy Garrett was born on January 28, 1961. Another boy, David Alan was born on April 21, 1962. Daniel Wayne joined the family on August 31, 1964. Susan Pat, the last of 6 children was born on March 29, 1965.
Patsy and Alan divorced in 1972.
Patsy's first priority was always her family. Patsy was a devout LOS woman and served her Heavenly Father as a Primary President for many years. She taught classes in the Relief Society as well. In her later years, she worked as a clerk, cashier at Best Store, Arrow Shirts, and Western Drug in Billings. She served as an LOS missionary in the Atlanta Georgia area in 1990 and 1991.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents George and Patsy Thomas of Butte, and a son Alan, and Alan Sr. Patsy is survived by children Karen and Duane Ericson of Billings MT, Kathy and Darrel Christensen of Ammon ID, Kathy Trip Garrett of Nampa ID, David and Jeanie of Butte MT, Dan and Sherrie of Mesa AZ, and Susan of Boise ID. Patsy is survived by 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Patsy enjoyed reading and spending time with many friends including Gennelle Sears, Colleen Clausen, and Marsha Stott. Many thanks to her good friends who helped carry out her final wishes and especially her hairstylist Jody Goddard.
Memorials can be to the Villa at River Ridge in Billings, MT 59105 where Patsy lived very happily for her last 8 years or Stillwater Hospice who provided end of life care to Patsy.
