Stephen Dennehy Obituary
July 25, 1954 - May 14, 2025
Steve passed away peacefully Wednesday May 14, 2025 after a battle with cancer.
He was born July 25, 1954, the fourth of five sons to Ed and Virginia (Kelly) Dennehy in Butte. Raised in Centerville. He attended St. Lawrence and St. Raymond grade schools. Graduated from Butte Central in 1972. He attended the Montana State University in Bozeman receiving a degree of Bachelor of Science in Sociology. Using his degree he worked with several different organizations around Montana, Seattle, WA and Portland, Oregon.
In 1988 he returned home to enjoy the good people of Butte and the slower pace of life.
He was an ardent genealogist researching his own family history back hundreds of years and helping others do the same.
He was very religious and after many years of studying different denominations found the Orthodox Church suited him the best and he was a member for the last 15 years.
He was extremely well read and very knowledgable about most subjects and had a good sense of humor especially in his writings.
He was generous. Although on a small fixed income he managed to donated to seven specific charities every month.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Tony.
He is survived by brothers; Ed (Jolene) Fairhaven, MA, Joe (Gaby) Bozeman, Paddy (Paula) Butte.
Nephews and nieces: Eddie (Megan) Dennehy, Sommerset, MA, Nicole (Mike) Bourgault, Fairhaven, MA, Sean Dennehy, Missoula, Joey Dennehy and Mike Dennehy, Bozeman, Katie (Dave) Lowe, Wakefield, VA, Padraig (Darby) Dennehy, Missoula, Brian (Iryna) Dennehy, Edina, MN, Quinn (Ryan Bahry) Dennehy, Bremerton WA.
Grand nieces and nephews; Flynn, Emerson, Nolan, Arden, Lena and Sparta.
Visitation will be May 20 at 10:00 and the services will be at 11;00 at the Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Christian Church, Butte. Reception will follow at the East Side Athletic Club.
Donations can be made to New Hope Clinic, Butte or charity of choice.
