Howard Leon Hughes
February 16, 1960-February 22, 2022
INDIANAPOLIS, IN–Howard Leon Hughes, 62, was born on February 16, 1960, in Poteau, Oklahoma, the son of O'Dell Hughes and Othella Mae Evans Hughes. Howard transitioned to heaven on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was united in marriage to Carol Denise Titus on February 10, 1979, in Muscatine, Iowa.
Howard was a Pastor in Muscatine for over 20 years and a Muscatine police officer for 14 years. After the police force, Howard used his unique mechanical talents to start a family Appliance Repair business and a family HVAC repair business.
Among his many unique talents was his ability to create entrepreneurial start-ups. He purchased numerous apartment buildings in Muscatine and was a landlord there for many years. He also started up churches in Rock Island, Illinois and Chico, California.
Howard enjoyed reading the bible and other spiritual books, coaching his sons' soccer teams, spending time with his grandchildren, and chess. He also achieved a Black Belt in Taekwondo at the age of 17.
He was outspoken and stood strong for what he believed in. Howard and his wife Carol were always united in their praise of God together in Church Services, often with dancing and shouts of praise.
He is survived by his wife: Carol Hughes; three sons: Noah L. Hughes, Solomon L. Hughes, Howard J. Hughes; six grandchildren: Ava, John Henry, Esther, Charlie, Willa, and Walker; and eight sisters: Priscilla, Melva, Ophelia, Alice, Virgie, Wanda, Amanda, and Janice.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his oldest, sister Quinzola, and only brother, Richard Hughes.

My Condolences to Carol and the family. Howard and I were hired by Muscatine PD from the same group of applicants and we got each other out of more than one scrape through the years. He was always a great representative of the city and the police department. I truly enjoyed our time together and was sorry to hear this sad news.
