MONTPELIER-Robert "Bob" Varner, 84, of Montpelier, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Muscatine. Memorials may be directed to the Muscatine Humane Society or the Pine Creek Grist Mill at Wild Cat Den in Bob's name. Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.
Robert Richard Varner was born on October 5, 1937 in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Richard and Beulah (Bergen) Varner. Bob was a 1956 graduate of MHS and went on to serve his country in the Iowa National Guard. In March of 1983, Bob was united in marriage to Nancy (Hammond) Marshall in Port Byron, Illinois. He worked as a Power Plant Supervisor at Fair Station/CIPCO, retiring after 36 years. Bob enjoyed collecting antique cars, gas engines and clocks and was involved in many groups associated with those collections. Following Bob's retirement, he and Nancy took a four month cruise around the world opening up a new found love of traveling.
Bob will be deeply missed by his wife, Nancy of Montpelier; children, Richard (Paula) Varner of Corydon, Indiana; Diane (Lee) Juehring of Muscatine and Doug Varner (Julie) Jones of Muscatine; step- son, John (Beth) Marshall of Fairbury, Illinois; step-daughter, Janet (Bill) Glass of Blue Grass; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Linda Doty.
