Ian Mitchell Obituary
There are no words for the sadness we share in announcing the death of Ian C. Mitchell, on February 3rd, 2025. His family was with him the last week of his life, surrounding him with love. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his tenacity and passion for life.
Ian was the son of David and Christina Mitchell, born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1934. He is survived by his wife, Vivienne, three children, Callum, Alison and Eric, and 3 grandchildren, Alicia, Conner and Bijan. He is also survived by nieces and nephews across the continent.
Ian had fond memories of roaming and camping in the Scottish moors. He served in the British Air Force, and began his career in printing before moving to the United States. Ian was very fond and proud of his senior sales representative career with United Graphics in Seattle, and was fortunate that his colleagues were like a 2nd family. As all his family and friends know, his passion for life took him through many different hobbies. Black belt in Jujitsu, white water rafting, extreme tennis, and competitive ballroom dancing. With each new adventure, he only wanted to do it at the Gold level.
In addition to his career in sales, during the 1960's and 1970's, Ian was a working artist and also followed this artistic passion during his retirement. He explored a wide range of artistic expressions with ink, pencil, water color and oils. His artistic creations ranged from abstracts to portrait paintings. He was very honored to have art shows held at the Seattle art galleries of Gordon Woodside and Fountainhead Gallery. Vivienne was very fond of their Friday evenings, coming home from work and having her own private art shows of the pieces he had created that week.
Ian and Vivienne celebrated Friday night date nights all through their marriage. Either out on the town or cozy at home with deli food, they cherished their time together. Their last Friday night together was in a hospital bed.
While dating, Ian and Vivienne experienced and laughed at the strange and unexplained re-occurrence of the number 56. It kept showing up in their telephone numbers, codes, addresses, license plates, etc. Ian passed away at 3:55 am.
Ian's passing has left a large hole in many hearts. We will think of him every day, and miss him forever.
