Isabell Loretta Gay-DeVaney

Beloved wife, mother, aunt (Tia), Nana, and great Nana, Isabell Gay-DeVaney, age 82, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, at Franciscan Hospice House in University Place, Washington. She was born on March 2, 1943, in Santa Paula, California, to Joseph Ralph Alvey and Vivian Lillian Valdez. Isabell was raised in Moorpark, CA along with her mother Vivian, and her siblings Don, Dorothy, Marjorie, and Joann. After proudly serving in the United States Air Force from 1963–1964, Isabell earned her Associate's Degree and went on to dedicate her career to faith and service as the Director of Religious Education at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Oak Harbor, Washington. In 1993 she met Dave DeVaney. After Dave won her heart, she was truly devoted to him. they married July 3, 2004 and lived in Bow, WA until Dave's passing in 2022. Isabell had a zest for life and cherished time spent with family and friends. She embraced every moment she spent with them. She had a beautiful smile. She loved camping, traveling, playing cards, cooking, and working on puzzles. Her warmth, laughter, and faith touched the lives of all who knew her. She is survived by her children Terrie Aupperle (Duane), Dan Alatorre, and grandsons Ian Aupperle (Rochelle), Nathan Aupperle (Brittany); granddaughter Kylene Alatorre; and great-grandsons Ash and Ben Aupperle. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews who she loved and cherished. Isabell was preceded in death by her husband, David DeVaney; her parents, Joseph Ralph Alvey and Vivian Rodriguez; her brother Don Bustoz; her sisters Dorothy Gutierrez, Marjorie Carrillo, and Joann Cross. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Moles Farewell Tributes Ferndale, WA, with a reception in the chapel to follow. Her family shares this message in her memory: "Remember me with smiles and laughter, not with tears. I am now happy with our Lord."
