Kathy Vander Meulen Obituary
Kathleen Diane Vander Meulen went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 19,2025. She was a devoted wife and mother, faithful to all, and selfless in giving of her time and talents. Using her gift of hospitality, her door was always open to family and friends. She knew how to speak the truth in love to everyone.
Kathy was born in Lynden, WA to Oscar and Katherine Dykstra on August 24, 1942.
She attended and graduated from Lynden Christian School in 1960.
She married Henry Vander Meulen on October 14, 1960, the love of her life for 62 years.
Kathy was a loving homemaker and farmers wife. She was a member of Lynden Protestant Reformed Church always helping with church and school activities. She loved gardening and having a beautiful yard. Kathy enjoyed baking goodies for everyone, sewing, puzzles and word searches. The simple things of life brought her joy. She loved Sunday lunches, coffee times with family, picnics, family vacations and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Together Henry and Kathy won the Dairy of Merit award for a well-run and beautiful dairy. She enjoyed being a member of the Whatcom County Dairy Women.
Kathy is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Henry Vander Meulen, and her parents Oscar and Katherine. She was the last of her siblings, Brother Pete Dykstra, sisters Greta Luekevich, Janet Beld, and Helen Dykes; and In-laws Glen Huleatt, Joanne Dykstra, and Dwight Dykes. They all preceded her in death.
Kathy is survived by her children Starla (Bernie) Mulder, Wade (Julie) Vander Meulen, Tim (Lorrainne) Vander Meulen and Heidi (Matt) Moore. 17 Grandchildren, 24 Great-Grandchildren with 2 more on the way.
She will be greatly missed by brothers-in-law Charlie Luekevich, and Leo (Linda) Beld; Vander Meulen family, Lois Vander Meulen, Bertha (Lawrence) Silvis, Gert Stuit, Mel (Eileen) Yonkman, Ted (Delores) Vander Meulen, Cheri (John) Vander Veen, Betty Hoksbergen, Edna (Bob) Vander Hoek; Numerous Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins, and friends from her church and the community.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 5-7:00 pm. Private Family Burial Monday, July 28 at 1:00 pm at Greenwood Cemetery (Wiser Lake Rd.). Memorial Service Monday, July 28 at 2:00 pm at Lynden Protestant Reformed Church.
Memorials may be made to Covenant Christian School, Meadow Greens, or Whatcom Hospice.
The family wish to thank their church family, the staff at MG who cared for Mom with tender loving care. Her in-home caretakers, Whatcom Hospice and all those who visited Mom and lent a helping hand.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
