Mary Ellen Rogers-Studebaker

Mary Rogers-Studebaker, 98, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025, in Bellingham Washington.

Born on September 26, 1927, in Zion, Illinois, Mary was the daughter of Oliver and Ella Peterson. She grew up on a small, family farm with a large, extended family nearby. In 1938, her family left the Midwest and moved to Bellingham where Mary attended Fairhaven Middle School and Whatcom High School. When she was fourteen, she and her friends attended the nearby Nazarene church where Mary found Jesus, a moment that would shape her faith and guide her throughout her life.

When she was sixteen, Mary left Bellingham and headed to Idaho to pursue her passion for music and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in music theory from Northwest Nazarene College (NNC). Her love for music remained a central part of her life. She especially enjoyed directing choirs and pageants. Whether leading voices in harmony or encouraging others to sing, Mary brought energy and inspiration to every ensemble she led.

Professionally, Mary devoted herself to the field of social work. Her career reflected her compassionate nature and commitment to helping others navigate life's challenges with dignity and support.

Mary experienced both joy and sorrow in her personal life. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, William Rogers; her second husband, Karl Studebaker; her son, John Rogers; her brothers, Britten, Clarence, Paul, and Walter; and her sister, Evelyn. She is survived by her daughter, Merilee Stewart; her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A dynamic presence in every community she touched, Mary's legacy lives on through those who knew her and were uplifted by her spirit. May her memory bring comfort and peace to all who remember her.
