Bernard Thomas Poe

Bernard Thomas Poe, age 85, of Owenton, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, June 18, 2022.
Born October 1, 1936, in Covington, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Thomas and Eva Cammack Poe. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Bernice and Bonnie; his daughter Julia Steele; and his son-in-law, Mark Wright. Bernie graduated from the University of Kentucky, College of Pharmacy in 1958. He went on to serve his country in Public Health Service, a branch of the United States Coast Guard, from 1958 - 1962. Bernie served his community as a pharmacist and co-owner of Morgan & Thomas Drug Store with Bobby Walker. He was the former owner and administrator of Owenton Manor; former owner of New Horizons Assisted Living; and former administrator of New Horizons Medical Center. Bernie was named "Owen Countian of the Year" for his efforts in physician recruitment and again in 2002, along with the New Horizons Health Systems Board of Directors. He served as a member of the Owen County Fire Department, deacon of Owenton First Baptist Church, the Gideons, and Rotary Club. Bernie enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in his barn, raising registered collies, and traveling with his family.
Bernie made significant contributions to Owen County and will be missed by friends and family. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Fields Poe; his daughter, Dr. Janet Wright; and the pride of his life, his grandson, Thomas Wright; and a host of extended family and friends.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at First Baptist Church on Sunday, June 26, 2022, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at church on Monday at 1 p.m. with Bro. Brad Banks presiding. To honor Bernie's memory, contributions are suggested to First Baptist Church or Samaritan's Purse.
