Alfred "Allie" Clark

AGE: 88 • South Amboy

Alfred "Allie" Clark, 88, of South Amboy, died Monday, April 2, 2012 at Briarwood Care Center, Morgan. Born in South Amboy he lived there all of his life. He was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church, South Amboy. Before retiring, he was employed by Iron Workers Local 373, Perth Amboy for 30 years. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion, Luke A. Lovely Post 62 and V.F.W. Post 645, South Amboy. He is a former South Amboy City Councilman, Grand Marshall of the 1982 South Amboy St. Patrick's Day Parade, and a founding member and Past President of the Frog Hollow Swim and Tennis Club, South Amboy. He was a major league baseball player for the New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, and the Philadelphia Athletics. He won 2 world series championships with the 1947 Yankees and the 1948 Indians.

Son of the late Alfred and Helen Clark, he was also predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Joseph, Edward, Francis and John Clark, Florence Kierst and Doris Tibok and his son in law, John Nemeth. He is survived by his wife, Frances Geant Clark; his daughters and sons in law, Susan Nemeth of South Amboy, Kathy and Eddie Good of Forked River, Maureen and Joe Castellano of Parlin and Denise and Brendon O'Brien of Howell; his sons and daughters in law, Alfie, Jr. and Diane Clark of Parlin and Gene and Madeline Clark of South Amboy; 2 sisters, Irene Gorczynski of Morgan and Rose Marie Greco of Connecticut; 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 9am from The Gundrum Service "Home For Funerals", 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 9:30am Liturgy of the Word Service at St. Mary's Church, South Amboy. Interment will follow at Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 9:30am at St. Mary's Church, South Amboy.

Mr. Clark was a very nice man. As a child when visiting my grandparents(LeRoy ans Rose Kurtz) Mr. Clark was good for a sports story. Sorry to hear the loss of the beloved man.
