Dr. Anne B. Fosbre

Dr. Anne Butler Fosbre of Madison, and Bricktown, passed away suddenly on Saturda, Feb. 22, 2014. Anne was born in Roselle Park on Dec. 25, 1922 to Anne (Monahan) and Thomas Butler, both deceased. She attended Roselle Park High School and subsequently graduated from Union Junior College. She then attended the University of Illinois at Urbana, where she completed her undergraduate degree in accounting and finance in 1945. In 1975, she completed her MBA at New York University (NYU) Graduate School of Business. In 1984, Anne earned her PhD in business administration also from NYU.
Dr. Fosbre taught in New Jersey's public school system for 14 years before pursuing a career in higher education. She taught for Upsala College, Bloomfield College, County College of Morris, Pace University and Georgian Court University, where she worked until her death. In 2012, Georgian Court University honored Dr. Fosbre naming her the first distinguished Scholar of the University. In 2003, Dr. Fosbre was made a Dame of Malta of St. John Jerusalem.
In 2000, Governor Christie Whitman appointed Dr. Fosbre to a five-year term in the New Jersey State Board of Accountancy, where she served as Secretary. She also served as a member of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy as a member of the Uniform CPA Examination Committee. Dr. Fosbre is noted for her publications in International Financial Reporting Standards. Dr. Fosbre's interests reached beyond education. She loved fashion and was an avid sewer and hat maker. She once remade a 50-year old maternity suit with a hat to match. She won first prize for her creation in the Asbury Park Easter Parade. When the second-place winner asked her where she got her outfit, Anne replied "From the attic."
Dr. Fosbre is predeceased by her husband, Vincent who passed away in 1997. Her survivors include her sons, Peter Fosbre of Bricktown, and Paul Fosbre, also of Bricktown; daughters, Leanne Fosbre of Chicago, Illinois, Laura Kelly and her husband Phillip Kelly of Cherry Hill. Anne is also survived by six grandchildren, Justin La Vigne and his wife Patrice of Denver, Colorado, Julie Hartings and her husband Russ of Chicago, IL, Jamie La Vigne and her partner Rachel Miller of Denver, Colorado, Genevieve Kelly, Alexa Kelly, Zachary Kelly, all of Cherry Hill; and her great-grandson, Everett Hartings of Chicago, IL.
Visiting will be from 2 to 4 p.m. & 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014 at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main St., Madison. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at Church of Christ the King, Blue Mill Road, New Vernon. Interment to follow at New Vernon Cemetery, New Vernon. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dr. Fosbre can be made to Georgian Court University Scholarship Fund. Envelopes will be provided by the funeral home.
