Deaconess Johnson-Phillips Obituary
AGE: 72 • Plainfield
Deaconess Glenda R. Johnson - Phillips, 72, passed Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012. Born in Baltimore, Md. she was a Plainfield resident for over 30 years, formerly of Scotch Plains. She was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church for 45 yrs. serving as Deaconess, Usher, Missionary, Choir and Sunday School Superintendent, and was employed by the State of NJ, Dept. of Developmental Disabilities for 33 yrs. Mrs. Phillips was a member of the Eastern Stars serving as Past Worthy Matron of Starlight Chapter #63 and member of Mohawk Temple #197 in Plainfield.
Predeceased by her husband, Waymon L. Phillips Sr.; parents, Gilbert Hooper and Lillian Chesson, she is survived by sons, Waymon L. Phillips Jr., Gavin S. Phillips (Birdia); daughter, Tara L. Phillips Bellamy (Terrence); brother, Irvin Chesson; sisters, Belva Hill, Yvette, Renee, Tanya Chesson; 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren.
Service will be on Monday, October 8, 7 PM, Metropolitan Baptist Church, 823 Jerusalem Rd, Scotch Plains, NJ visitation Monday 5-7pm at the church. Arrangements: Judkins Colonial Home. In lieu of flowers, please make donation in the name of Deaconess Glenda R. Johnson-Phillips to the Metropolitan Baptist Church. Condolences: www.judkinscolonialhome.com
