Doris Boyce Obituary

Doris Murphy Boyce

AGE: 59 • Old bridge

Doris "Dori" (Murphy) Boyce died on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at Care One in East Brunswick. She was 59.

Born in New Brunswick, she resided in Spotswood before moving to Old Bridge 1 ½ years ago.

Dori was an elementary school teacher at Immaculate Conception School in Spotswood, where she taught for almost twenty years. Prior to that she was a teacher at St. Matthias School in Somerset.

She was a loving sister, a doting aunt, a passionate teacher, a special friend, an eternal optimist and, as she would admit, a bit of a klutz. Dori loved her family and friends and she loved her career. She taught with enthusiasm, believing her job was to inspire her students to love learning. She worked tirelessly to ensure she met the needs of all of her students who benefitted from the exceptional abilities of their teacher, guide and biggest cheerleader. In recent years, Dori enjoyed working with her pre-school students whose joy for life matched her own.

Dori, "don't ever call me Doris," was always ready to laugh, smile and have some fun. Her zest for life, her caring nature and her faith in God never failed to shine through. The world will be a bit dimmer for a while, but the memory of Dori's positive and upbeat spirit will make us all smile once again. The best thing anyone can do in memory of Dori is to love life and live it to the fullest.

She was predeceased by her parents, Kenneth Murphy and Doris Van Woeart; her brother, Richard, in 1989 and her brother, Kenneth II, in 2012.

Surviving are her brother, Kevin, of Palm Coast, FL; two sisters, Patricia Ambrosio and her husband, Patrick, of North Brunswick and Kathy Murphy and her partner, Aprile Mondello, of New Brunswick; two sisters-in-law, Pat Wright and her husband, Jack, of Spring Lake Heights and Irene Murphy of Pooler, GA and a large loving family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10:15 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 18 South Street, Spotswood, under the direction of The BRUNSWICK MEMORIAL HOME, East Brunswick (www.brunswickmemorialhome.com)

Friends may visit at the church on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception School, 23 Manalapan Avenue, Spotswood, NJ 08884, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorial & Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org) or American Cancer Society, 2600 U.S. Highway 1, North Brunswick, NJ 08902 (www.cancer.org).

She was my 5th grade teacher in ICS. Wonderful person that was always willing to have a conversation about anything. She had such great patience for children she taught and now I am forever grateful for the impact she left on me and many others.

Miss Murphy was my favorite teacher at SMS. I was in her first class there as a new teacher. I can remember her being as excited to teach us as we were about this new, smiley, fun, happy teacher! She always treated us like people, not just little kids. She truly valued us and cared for us. I wish her family peace. I know she's smiling down!

I also had the pleasure and honor to know Dori in High School, and later again when she taught 4th grade at St. Matthias and my children. As friends in high school we spent many evenings driving around in her mothers station wagon, as long as we brought her mother to Bingo and pick her up. Dori was a good friend and always enjoyed life. She will be missed
