EDITH H. DOWNES
AGE: 88 SOMERSET
Edith Harriet (Snowden) Downes died Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with her family by her side. She was born December 8, 1921 in Jersey City, NJ where she was a graduate of Snyder High School. She married Dewain S. Downes on October 27th, 1948 and moved to Somerset, NJ in August of 1964 where she resided up until her death. She worked for several years at JJ Newberry's in New Brunswick, NJ. Edith was fond of reading, singing, telling stories and will be missed by those who knew her.
She was predeceased in death by a daughter; Ruth C. Legget of Sonoma, California. She is survived by her husband of 62 years Dewain S. Downes; 2 daughters, Diane S. Dinnegan of Howell, NJ, and Meredith V. Downes of Somerville, NJ; a son, Dewain R. Downes of Somerset, NJ, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, her sister, Edna Rearden of No. Middletown, NJ as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be at Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton St. Somerset, NJ 08873 (732) 545-0700 Tuesday, October 12, 2010 from 3-6pm with the Reverend George A. Downes presiding. Cremation to be Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick, NJ.
