Edward Hammel Obituary
AGE: 86 • East Brunswick
Edward G. Hammel, 86, passed away at St. Peter's University Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ on Thursday, May 30, 2013. He was born and raised in New Brunswick and moved to East Brunswick 54 years ago.
Ed served his country in the United States Army and Merchant Marines from 1946-1948 during the WWII era. Upon his return from the service, Ed worked in the family business, Berman Hardware in Highland Park, NJ. He eventually became the Proprietor with his wife Joan and retired in 2002. He was a Free and Accepted Mason and a sports connoisseur, especially his love of football, which he shared with his son and best friend, Steve.
Edward was predeceased by his parents Max and Flora (Hamelsky) Hammel and is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan (Berman), his children Susan and her husband Daniel Hunziker, of Birmingham, AL, Stacy and her husband Frank Chelkowski, of Somerset, NJ and Steven Hammel, of North Brunswick, NJ, his five grandchildren Jessica, Courtney, Alison, Jaime and Micalene and his sister Dorothy Mallinger, of Lauderdale Lakes, FL.
Graveside services will be held at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge Center Drive, Woodbridge, NJ on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at 11:00 am. Shiva will be sat at the family home on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Arrangements are under the direction of the Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 239, Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ.

my sister esther and i last say eddie at his mothers shiva at his sister sonias' home. we were eddies cousins who lived next door to him and his 4 sisters growing up. a nice family---my sympathy goes out to his family--bess (hamelsky) bassoff---a friend of sonias and rosie.
